BKT Circus

BKT Circus A Brisbane based race team participating in the SEKQLD endurance karting championship, and 4 stroke sprint racing. Principle sponsor, the Big Kart Track.

The BKT Circus is a race team comprising of Dale and Tom Hancox, and Jason Ives. We formed this team at the beginning of 2014 to enter the SEKQLD (Sportsman Endurance Karting Queensalnd) championship. The SEK Qld Series consists of six rounds in 2014, mostly one day events, although one "marquee" event at Rockhampton and a Warwick 2 day race are in the 2014 season. Race durations are a minimum of

6 hours involving teams of at least 2 drivers. All drivers must hold a current senior Karting Australia - AKA licence and be members of an affiliated Club.

It's race week people!

Round 2 of the SEKQLD State Championship at Port Macquarie.

The State of Origin Challenge will be run in conjunction with SEKNSW and will take place in Port Macquarie, New South Wales on the May Day Long Weekend.

This will be the biggest Endurance Karting event held in Australia and will be the closest thing the code has to a National Title event. In addition to making up part of both the SEKQLD and SEKNSW State Championships, competing teams will also be competing for a unique prize: the National Sportsman Endurance Karting Shield.

It will be a two day event under the Double Direct format. The round will be made up of two separate 6 Hour Races, with points on offer for both the SEKQLD and SEKNSW Championships, and the National Sportsman Endurance Karting Shield.

Round 1 of the SEKQLD Endurance Karting Championship took place at the Warwick Kart Club at the Sandy Creek Raceway. It was a held on 25 & 26 Mar, 12hrs of racing over the 2 days.

Our kart showed very good pace against 19 other karts, but dramas a plenty on the first day. Within the second hour of the race we were involved in an accident with two other karts resulting in a bent steering column and tie rods. We ended up finishing the race mid field with plenty of work ahead of us.

After fixing the kart overnight we qualified fourth on the grid for race two. Race started well and we found ourselves in second place by mid race. Within the forth hour we had a torrential rain storm that played havoc on the field for the next 2 hours. Half the field including ourselves received penalties for pit stop infringements which we are still waiting on results.

Regardless we continued the rest of the race within the top five. Last pit stop completed we sent Thomas out with 30 minutes of time to complete the race. 15 minutes later a clutch/sprocket stripped itself causing us to pit. A bit disappointing but we had a great weekend of racing and look forward to our next event.

It's been a busy year so far and we have been a bit slack with the updates on whats happening so our apologies for the quick succession of updates that may come through on your wall.

Round 1, the Warwick Double Direct - 6hr + 6hr endurance race has done and dusted, not the results we were after as we had some challenges to over come during the race. Race update to follow.

Round 2, the State of Origin challenge!. SEKQLD vs SEKNSW down at Port Macquarie. 12hrs of racing over 2 days, karts and drivers from 2 clubs racing head to head. More info to follow.

And in between all that, we have started our new adrenaline filled adventure, we bought a Rally car and have raced in a few events around Qld and NSW already, more on that later.

We had an awesome day at Toowoomba this weekend. Not the result we were hoping for, but after 6hrs of hard wheel to wheel racing, we came in at P6. The kart ran solid all day, with no mechanical issues, but unfortunately a few other teams couldn't say the same which saw about 3 full course yellows deployed during the race.

A shout out to all the SEK and KA volunteers and officials that give up their time to run the day, and to our resident photographer Kev Davies for standing out on the track the whole race to capture the action shots below.

Also a big thank you to our sponsors and friends, Big Kart Track, up at Landsborough on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. They have just laid some new tarmac down to smooth out the track which has been great for our early morning practise sessions before being open to the public.

Only 4 weeks until the next race up at Cooloola, it should be a cracker!
