- VALE STAN & BARB EVANS -
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of two giants of our Hills community, Stan and Barb Evans. Stan passed away on 28 November aged 95, and Barb on 4 December 2025 aged 93. While we mourn their loss, it is comforting to know they are together again.
Stan and Barb’s impact on the Mt Lofty and Heathfield sporting communities is immeasurable. Stan’s leadership, vision and decades of service—recognised with an OAM in 2019—helped shape our football, cricket and community clubs. Barb’s warmth, organisation and tireless volunteer work made her a much-loved and respected leader across netball and many community groups.
From forming the Heathfield Football Club in the 1950s, to driving junior development, to guiding multiple club amalgamations, Stan played a pivotal role in building the strong sporting pathways we enjoy today. His most enduring legacy is the Heathfield Sporting Complex, created through sheer determination and countless hours of hands-on work.
Barb was equally influential — serving as President and Life Member of the Heathfield Netball Club and Hills Netball Association, contributing enormously to the licensed club, and supporting Stan through decades of behind-the-scenes service.
A special memory came this year when Stan and Barb were driven around Heathfield Oval during the HFL Grand Final — a moving moment at the ground they helped create. Stan’s words to Barb said it all: “Look at this. All that work was worth it.”
Their legacy continues through their children, who proudly carry their flame across our clubs.
We extend our sincere condolences to Yvonne, David, Iain, Daphne, Andrew and their families.
Forever grateful,
