⭐2026 Londonderry Pony Club Horsemanship – The Graeme Lloyd Memorial Horsemanship Award for an Open Rider 13yrs and Over⭐
The Lloyd Family has a longstanding connection to Londonderry, dating back well into the early 1980’s.
Graeme was instrumental in establishing our clubhouse, which still stands today. Originally built on our old Castlereagh grounds, the clubhouse was a stark upgrade to the “garden shed”.
Graeme spent amongst his final hours at an LPC working bee he had arranged. The task at hand, completing the canteen end of the clubhouse and outdoor lighting. It is documented by LPC member, and friend of Graeme, Alan Luscombe, that as they bid farewell after that day, that they’d never imagined it would be the last time they wave goodbye to Graeme in his “big monster” (his beloved truck). Graeme never got to see the clubhouse finished in all its glory, but every LPC member, after his passing, vowed to finish it in his memory, and how he would have wanted it.
When the club house was officially opened a year later on March 14th, 1987, it was dedicated to Graeme’s legacy. It still stands to this day, although now at our Londonderry Grounds, having hosted many decades of riders passing through, with his dedication plaque highly hung.
The trophy dates back to 1987, with the familiar name of one Mr Anthony Newham taking the title. And today, yet another Newham name is etched on the plaque, with the 2026 Graeme Lloyd Memorial Horsemanship Award for an Open Rider 13yrs and Over being presented to Jared Newham 🐴
