Hobie Rnd 2 Camden Haven! Awesome weekend and a great start to my season with a 16th Place and some good AOY points. Being close to home allowed me to get a good feel for the place prior to the comp.
Day 1. I was straight on to good fish with surface lures but they were brutal in the oysters and promptly took my lures home with them. Losing three good fish by 8:30 had started to do my head in. It became a percentage game with lots of little fish competing for my lure, but I ground it out for what I thought would be a small bag that turned out to be reasonable for the day.
Day two I was aiming to not slip any further down the ladder so I decided to head to a spot that previously produced some good fish. On my way to spot “x” I got a just legal bag so I was pretty comfortable at 7:45.
Spot “x” looked good on the sounder but the current was strong so I nosed into the current for a half hour on the treadmill. First cast I got a good Bream for the bag and ten minutes later another. Shortly after that a little Soapy Jew had me thinking I had Big Bream. At this time a lovely gentleman in his boat saw me catching and decided to “spot lock” within 20 ft of me and “share” my spot. Biting my tongue I decided to head to Queens Lake🤯. I was pretty confident that I could grind out the day looking for the random good fish on the flats. Eventually I found my last upgrade and as the tide turned I slowly fished my way back to the launch site catching the occasional little Bream.
Big shout out to my sponsor Adam at “Dizzy Scent” and thank you to HWS, Manning River Marine and Harrington Bait and Tackle for keeping me stocked with the right gear.
