Thanks to David Murray we have a second run report today - enjoy!
In 1839, John Reynell arrived in Adelaide and set up his vineyard in what we know now as Reynella, and in 1854, after the demand for houses, land was sold and the township of Reynella was born, but jumping forward, on the 16/12/2017, a new parkrun was born, Reynella East !!!
Reynella, as a suburb is blessed with numerous parks, and the one that this parkrun sits on, just like all parkruns, is a fantastic little venue, which uses its limited space quite well. Two laps, including threading itself around the ponds, which when full, offer much bird and amphibian life
And so we came to event number 405, and even though the heavens had opened up, this being parkrun, we were not going to let a little bit of dampness stop our Saturday ritual !!! Chris, the RD, told us all, there are puddles, so basically, everyone went back to acting like a child and there was plenty of splashing water, and don't forget the mud !!! Chris then called out for milestones, a big congrats to the following runners, Andrew Short - 250, Susan Nicholson - 50, and Alysha Hamilton - 25. We also had one couple who put them to shame as today was their 56th wedding anniversary !!!
We were herded over to the start, and then we were off, all 86 of us warriors, walking, running, hopping and jumping, and after 20:06, Daniel Fleming was the first person home, and even the weather did not stop him getting a PB !!! At the 24:47 mark, the first female crossed the line, Kate Hosford came in and had also achieved a PB !!! Maybe this says something about this event, if you want to get a PB, make sure that it is pouring with rain, because today, we actually saw 9 PB !!!
Next week, hopefully we will see Melanie Wilson, who will be celebrating her 250th, so lets all join her and hope that she too can run a PB
As with all parkruns, parkrun would not exist without the volunteers, it is an easy thing to do, and so rewarding, so a big thank you to the following people:
Chris BRAY, Callum SETO, Edward SETO, Heidi BETTONEY, Isaac FALLON, Dennis GILGEN, Tony DIXON, Craig WHITE, Susan NICHOLSON, Mark DOUGLASS, Janet DAY, Helen WATKINS, Joanne MCKEOWN, Danielle WALKER
