It was a great day of bowling on Sunday as the finals of the major minor pairs was played out. In the morning Russell Sherren and Rob Woodhouse opened up a huge lead against Thelma Amakuti and Norm Pech only to have their lead vanish with a six shot turnaround to force a sudden death play off after finishing level which Pech and Amakuti won. The final before a large audience opened disastrously for the Pech / Amakuti combo with Heather McIntyre and Richartd Neaves opening up a 10 shot lead with magnificent draw bowling. Althjough there was a fightback McIntyre and Neaves were never headed and ran our victors. Congratulations to all players.
In superb weather thirty six bowlers took part in social bowls on Thursday in a mixture of pairs and triples, enhanced with some great visitors. Neville Linke who is in great form teamed with Peter McIntyre from Dunkeld to win the pairs while Robyn Donovan, Julie Po***ck from Grangeburn and Noel Murphy played great bowls to win the triples.
On Saturday a smaller number of players braved the threatening weather to play three games of pairs. Richard Neaves in his first game as a skipper joined Tom Storer to win the day from Norm Pech and John Mitchell. Indoor bowlers receive only a small mention this week, losing their second pennant match by four shots. Coach Bev is threatening reprisals. There is a bye this week.
The club’s three pennant shields and photos are now on display thanks to Richard Neaves’ handiwork, Thanks Richard, my choice as bowler of the week, All players are requested to begin training for the first Bonanza Day in June, beginning with a 6.00 A.M sprint around Lake Hamilton.
See you all at the Annual Meeting and the election of new committees.
