* Our group studies Yagyū Shingan-ryū Heihōjutsu (Sendai), and our FB site (Australia 🇦🇺) is for our student/members, friends/associates who practice, research or have an interest in the classical martial arts ryū of Japan (kobujutsu). Our site is managed (Edited) by 3 of our most senior members.

* The ryu's (Chikuōsha) training program includes the 28 basic kajo, numerous methods of yawara [jūjutsu] and weaponry. Inside the dojo (Goshū Chikuōsha) Yagyu Shingan ryu keiko presents much energy and intensity and the ryūha is famous for its deadly and menacing intent (sakki). Within the Chikuōsha we sometimes abbreviate the phrase Yagyū Shingan-ryū & refer to it simply as Shingan-ryū or Yagyū-ryu [inexact]. It's the outcome of peace that's paramount, and by following the teachings handed down by Takenaga Hayato (竹永 隼人) it is to live in peace.

* Yagyū Shingan-ryū in Australia was formally introduced and authorised by Shimazu Kenji (1938 - 2024) headmaster of the Kyōdensho Chikuōsha in Japan. This is the style that was handed down for the first time in Australia. To date 62 Australian Monjin have been formally initiated.

* The tradition was founded circa 1600 by Takenaga Hayato. Known for its skills and notable accomplishments in combat including its significant historical recognition, this is the Yagyū Shingan Ryū of Japan, a cultural practice that is actively maintained and adapted over time, rather than being a static relic of the past.

The Yagyū Shingan-ryū tradition has since been endorsed historically as an Intangible Cultural Treasure of Miyagi Prefectural Government Japan (Date Masamune).
The immeasurable depth, history, lineage and custodians of the school indicates its credibility.

* A good deal of posts presented (by us) in English are a similar or identical version of what Shimazu Kenji has previously presented in Japanese within public forums, books and magazines over the decades. So, as a rule there is no significant change or development in what we decide to present.

* Since the passing of Headmaster Shimazu Kenji (ご冥福をお祈り申し上げます、、、!) in January 2024, the successor headmaster (Kokeisha Chikuōsha) is Tada Teruo. Our (Chikuōsha) monjin work & train together for the joint purpose of the Yagyū Shingan Ryū, an insightful (private) school of ancient strategy and tactics to continue existence.

* Technical skills shown in this FB forum should be undertaken under expert/authorised instruction.

* Our Kyōdensho (dojo) Chikuōsha is open to members from 9am to 9pm Monday to Saturday which allows those shift workers a better opportunity to attend a lesson. Personal practice of YSgR outside the Kyōdensho in your own time is essential & highly encouraged.

* Our Shihan is a licenced master teacher and has an extensive knowledge of the martial ryū and its beginnings from the late sengoku period, including its jūjutsu like techniques and associated weapons. As a recognised authority he continues to conduct research into any forthcoming information relating to the tradition.

* To our FB friends & associates, thank you for having an interest and liking the Yagyū Shingan-ryū tradition. 武術諸芸の父母は体術也

We managed to successfully get through the desired lessons during the gasshuku. The interaction was very positive and duly noted.
