Gunnedah Day of Dressage and Jumping Nov 25
Rider Notes
Welcome to our entrants at this Sunday’s competition.
Our small but enthusiastic committee (read about 6 people) hopes that you enjoy the fruits of our efforts to bring you the last event for Namoi Horse Association for 2025.
Please read these rider notes thoroughly so that you are aware of what you need to know and do at the event.
Set up for dressage will be at 4 pm on Saturday. We are hopeful that some of you will join us to erect the 2 dressage arenas which will be on the main showground arena. If you are camping at the grounds on Saturday evening, perhaps arrive a little earlier that you were originally planning so that you can assist.
Showjumping set up will be at 8 am on Sunday. Again, volunteers are needed to assist with this task.
The committee will also need a hand to help dismantle the dressage arenas and showjumping arena at the end of the competition. NHA has a firm belief that along side of the luxury of being able to compete at an event, sits responsibility to assist at that event in some way. To that end, we do ask that competitors stay to help put away the equipment.
There is a draw for a volunteer prize at the end of the event. However you have to be present to win it.
Competitors will need to adhere to EA rules during the event.

Attire: Required attire is neat casual dress. (No formal dress and/or plaits – hooray!). In the dressage, callers are allowed, as are a dressage whip. Gloves should be worn. As per EA rules, Dressage tests may be completed in a showjumping saddle if you wish. (EA National Dressage Rules 2025, Rule 5.10 c))
Your helmet needs to be tagged for Dressage and Showjumping with a yellow Equestrian Australia tag. There will be an EA helmet tagger on the grounds if your helmet needs to be assessed for compliance and tagging. Please phone Tina McTavish (0427 697523) prior to the event to organise a time for helmet assessment and tagging. If your helmet is not yet tagged, and is then assessed to be non-compliant, you will not be able to compete, unless you have another compliant and tagged helmet.
A helmet tagged only with a Pony Club of Australia tag is not sufficient.
Please check current rules before the event to ensure that your helmet is compliant. The following link takes you to the current accepted standards for helmets in Australia: HELMET TAGGING INSTRUCTIONS December 2024.pdf
Entry challenges: We understand that the late change to an event on Sunday only meant that some difficulties were experienced with Nominate. Contact Charlotte Hoddle on 0418 463 767 if that has been the case for you and you need assistance with your entry.
Stabling: If you are stabling your horse at the grounds, please only use the front row of stables. At the end of the event, take a photograph to demonstrate that you have cleaned out your stable in order to get your bond refunded.
If you are only travelling to the event on Sunday, AND if you wish to use a stable for your horse, please advise Charlotte Hoddle (Ph 0418 463 767) prior to Sunday, as a stable payment will be required. Competitors whom are not camping overnight are not permitted to use a stable on Sunday unless previously arranged and paid for.
As it is a timed draw, Dressage tests will take priority over showjumping rounds for completion. If you think that you will have a clash between your dressage test time and your showjumping round, please let the showjumping arena know so that they can accommodate that.
Presentation: Ribbons will be presented at the end of each showjumping class. Ribbons for dressage tests will be presented at the end of the dressage part of the competition.
NB: Paper based tests will be used at this event. Dressage tests will not be held and later posted to competitors. Tests must be collected by the end of the event.
Coffee Van: A coffee van will be at the grounds on Sunday. It will also provide slushies.
There will be no food available for purchase, so please make your own arrangements for food.
Weather: Should a decision need to be made about the event due to inclement weather, a post will be put on Facebook to advise competitors. If there is no post saying otherwise, the event is on!
We hope that you have a fantastic time on Sunday and thoroughly enjoy your outing with your equine partners. Remember to bring them some carrots as a thankyou!
