PUMPKIN SOUP SHOWDOWN… and our inaugural winners are… Paula B and Nettie M 🏆 🎃 🥇

The scene was set yesterday as entries started to arrive for ‘The Great Gundowring Pumpkin Soup Showdown’.

Hosted inside the hall as part of our annual Winter Solstice Community gathering it was wonderful to see (and taste 😋) so many different versions of this country classic!

With bragging rights for the next year up for grabs (and the chance to have their name engraved on our plaque and to take home the golden sash) the tension was high as all guests entered the hall, tasted the soups and then voted for their favourite by placing a river rock in the corresponding tub.

Chunky or smooth… Butternut, Kent or Queensland Blue etc… cream, coconut cream, milk…. secret ingredients! The discussions and debates sure were passionate ❤️🎃

And after all the tastings were over… it was very exciting to announce Paula B and Nettie M as joint winners - both having scored equally the most votes for the best soup!

Well done and a huge thank you to everyone who came along and got involved. It really was such a fun day! Stay tuned for next year’s Soup Showdown…!!

Gundowring Hall Winter Solstice event & Fire Wood Raffle WINNER Announced! ❄️ 🔥 🪵

We enjoyed a relaxing sunny day today sitting around the fire pit at our annual community Winter Solstice event. It was so lovely to catch up with all our locals with many new faces popping in also to say hello and bask in our fresh country air.

CONGRATULATIONS… Aaron - the lucky raffle ticket winner of our fire wood raffle. A trailer load of Kiewa Valley’s best fire wood is heading your way🔥🪵

We’d like to send a huge thanks to Paul Ginnivan for preparing the wood, and also a thankyou to all who purchased tickets and helped us raise much needed funds for our hall and recreation reserve.

A big shout out and thankyou to our local businesses who sold tickets 🎟️ Please continue to support them as much as they support our community 🥰

SNAG CHAMP 2026… congratulations Jack Lockerbie!

Well that’s a wrap for the 2026 Dederang Picnic Races and what a fantastic race day it was!

After a tight race to the finish line with Jack and Maddie neck to neck… Jack pulled ahead after devouring a final 3 snags to claim the title of Snag Champ 2026 with the new race record of 13 snags eaten.

A big thanks to our incredibly hard-working and fun-loving Hall Comittee volunteers for all their time and efforts coming together to provide another successful day bringing delicious burgers, snags and drinks to visitors to the race.

Thankyou everyone for supporting our local community group. We’ll see you next year!
