Yesterday I made a decision that’s been on my mind for a while…
I have decided to step back from competing. It’s something that I’ve thought about over the past couple of months - the questions that kept coming up for me were:
💖 Why am I chasing this goal - I set out to compete and follow through on the experience. I’ve done that, now what’s next?
💖 How am I feeling when I watch other competitors and see them up on stage?
💖 How do I feel about putting that stress on my body again?
The truth was, the answer to these questions weren’t what I was expecting.
At first, the idea of competing again was about seeing if I could beat my own package. Slowly over time the thoughts crept in - am I able to compete against the other women? What’s the point if I know I’m not going to win? Why would I want my body to feel that exhausted and depleted again if it’s not something I want to be competitive at long term?
All of these thoughts started to place doubt in my mind but I still thought “why not see how I go”.
But the truth is, watching the FMG competition over the weekend sealed the deal for me.
I’m a natural competitor. This federation is untested. It’s not all women, but it’s surprising how many take enhancements that allow their body to achieve the incredible physiques on stage (you’d be surprised how many!!). I decided it was unfair to myself to compare my body that I’ve worked so hard to love and feel confident in, to others who were enhanced and focused purely on the aesthetic aspects.
Contrary to popular belief, building muscle naturally takes time, and my body takes longer than most to grow 😩
I realised my values have shifted and competing, comparing and pursuing the stage was starting to contradict the lifestyle I want to live.
I have learned so much through the process, and my coach has been incredible every step of the way! I’m grateful for every part of this experience and will continue to grow from it.
But, for now, it’s time to shift my focus 💖 I hope you join me on my next journey!
