Greensborough Football Club (Official)

Greensborough Football Club (Official) Welcome to the official page of the Greensborough Football Club. The game was played against Diamond Creek and it resulted in a draw.

The Greensborough Football Club was initially formed in 1893, but games weren’t organised and no official competition was established in the area. The Evelyn Observer reported in the Friday 30th June 1893 edition that the first match of the recently formed Greensborough Football Club took place on Saturday 24th June, 1893. The club was founded in 1905 and has established a proud history ever sinc

e that time. In 1922 the club became affiliated with the Diamond Valley Football League (DVFL) and were premiers in their inaugural year. Greensborough were 1 of 6 original teams in the DVFL. To date the club has won 17 A grade premierships and been runners up 14 times. Currently, the club plays their home games at War Memorial Park in Greensborough and fields 3 teams in Division 1 each week. Our Senior Women's team made it's debut in 2018 and in 2019 won it's inaugural premiership in the NFNL Division 3 competition. The Greensborough Netball Club was founded in 2011 and has regularly made finals in each year of the competition so far.

πŸ’šπŸ€Seniors Match ReportπŸ€πŸ’š

Eltham 9.12 (66) defeated Greensborough 6.12 (48)

The Seniors were unable to make it three wins in a row, going down by 18 points to Eltham in a hard-fought contest at Eltham Reserve.

Greensborough came out of the blocks full of energy, controlling territory and making the most of their opportunities to open up a 22-point lead at quarter time. The pressure was strong, the ball movement was sharp and the group looked well in control early.

Eltham gradually worked their way back into the game during the second quarter, but the Borough still held a handy advantage at the main break. The third term proved decisive, with the Panthers taking control around the contest and converting their chances to turn a seven-point deficit into a seven-point lead heading into the final change.

Despite continuing to fight hard, the Borough couldn’t bridge the gap in the last quarter, eventually falling 9.12 (66) to 6.12 (48).

There were plenty of strong contributors on the day. Jackson Davies, Will McFawn, Ben Ham, Zac Eastwood, James McCubbin and Rayden Garrard were all prominent performers and led the way across four quarters.

Up forward, Ben Ham and Rayden Garrard finished with two goals apiece, while Logan Daniltchenko and Marty Fitzgerald also hit the scoreboard.

While the result didn’t go our way, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance. The group showed strong intent early and battled the game out right until the final siren. The focus now turns to regrouping, learning from the experience and responding strongly next week as we continue our push through the second half of the season. πŸ’šπŸ€πŸ‰

πŸ’šπŸ€Development Match ReportπŸ€πŸ’š

The Development Group continued their strong run of form on Saturday with an outstanding 57-point victory over a quality Eltham outfit, running out winners 15.13 (103) to 7.4 (46).

In what was arguably their most complete performance of the season, the boys won every quarter and executed the game plan exceptionally well. From the outset, the focus was on denying Eltham their preferred handball chains and corridor movement, and the team’s commitment to working hard for each other both offensively and defensively was a standout.

Our attack on the contest was first class, while our directional talk, ball movement by foot and ability to lower the eyes going inside 50 created numerous scoring opportunities throughout the afternoon.

The midfield laid the foundation for the win, with Corey Potter providing a strong presence in the ruck. He was well supported by Adam Felton, who embraced a team-first role, while Lachlan Hill continued his impressive season with another influential performance around the contest.

Behind the ball, the defensive unit controlled the aerial battle and pressed up the ground with confidence. Manners, Johnsy and Jake Lambert were outstanding in leading a backline that continually repelled Eltham’s forward entries and set up attack from defence.

The forward group worked tirelessly, competing strongly in the air, sharing the football and applying excellent defensive pressure when not in possession. Jacob Pickett was a constant threat, finishing with four goals and bringing the small forwards into the game, while Mackinley Miller produced his best game of the season, linking up countless passages of play between the arcs and providing great drive for the side.

With depth continuing to build and the connection between the group growing each week, the Development Team is playing some terrific football and will look to carry that momentum into another important challenge next week.

Best Players: Josh Manuell, Mackinley Miller, Lachlan Hill, Corey Potter, Zak McCubbin

Goals: Jesse McKinnon 4, Jacob Pickett 4, Tyler Dixon 2, Zak McCubbin 2, Mackinley Miller 2, Zac Gigliotti 1.

πŸ’šπŸ€U19.5 Match ReportπŸ€πŸ’š

Greensborough 4.4 (28) def by Whittlesea 8.7 (55)

The scoreboard doesn’t quite reflect the effort from our Under 19.5 group on Saturday morning, with the boys battling hard against a strong Whittlesea outfit in difficult conditions.

After a tough start where Whittlesea jumped out of the blocks, the boys responded strongly through the middle stages of the game. Despite being held scoreless in the opening quarter, Greensborough showed plenty of character to work their way into the contest and remain competitive throughout.

Once again, Kane Kingsley produced a best-on-ground performance across half back. Whether it was his intercept marking in the wet conditions or his ability to launch attacks through the corridor by hand and foot, Kane was instrumental in driving the side forward and continually putting pressure back on the opposition.

The midfield brigade also stood tall, led by ruckman Ethan Ferris, who gave our on-ballers first use throughout the day. James Harding worked tirelessly around the contest, while Marcus Sanelli battled hard all game and never stopped competing.

Our better players included Kane Kingsley, Ethan Ferris, James Harding, Marcus Sanelli, Judd Denman and Joshua Vangelista, all of whom contributed strongly across four quarters.

On the scoreboard, Ethan Lewis Nardella finished with two goals, while Jake Bohan and Kyan Pullen added one major each.

There were plenty of positive signs despite the result, with the group continuing to show resilience, effort and a willingness to compete. The boys will take plenty of learnings from the game as they look to bounce back next week. πŸ’šπŸ€πŸ‰

50 Games – Marty Fitzgerald

Tomorrow we celebrate a great milestone as Marty Fitzgerald runs out for his 50th senior game for the Boro.

A tough and dependable mid/forward, Marty is known for his relentless tackling pressure, willingness to put his head over the footy, and ability to regularly find the goals. His attack on the contest and team-first attitude have made him a valued member of the senior side throughout his journey to 50 games.

Get down to Eltham Central Park tomorrow as we take on Eltham Football Club and help celebrate Marty’s 50-game milestone.

Congratulations Marty on reaching 50 senior games. Here’s to plenty more in the green.

πŸ’šπŸ€ ONE CLUB. ONE NIGHT. ONE BIG BORO TURNOUT. πŸ’šπŸ€

On Saturday 18th July, we're calling on all players, partners, sponsors, members and supporters to get behind what promises to be one of the best social events of the year.

We'll meet at War Memorial Park from 6:00pm–6:30pm for pizza before jumping on the bus and heading to the East Brunswick Hotel for a huge night of Dueling Pianos, great entertainment and plenty of laughs.

This is more than just a social event. It's an opportunity for our entire football club community to come together away from the footy field and enjoy a great night with the people who make our club special.

Importantly, it's also our chance to support one of our longest-standing and most valued major sponsors.

The East Brunswick Hotel turns up for Greensborough Football Club year after year. They support our players, our members and our club, and now it's our turn to support them.

Let's fill the bus, pack out the venue and show our appreciation for a business that continues to back the Boro.

As we always say...
