Congratulations to our ERT orange ball section 5 junior team who played in a grand final this morning. Unfortunately they didn’t get the W but it’s been a great season for the team.

Well done to all of our ERT summer teams this season. Winter season starts in April!

Pride days in sport matter because sport isn’t just about scores and trophies—it’s about belonging.

Here’s why they’re a big deal:
1. Visibility breaks silence
For a long time, LGBTIQA+ people in sport were told (explicitly or not) to stay quiet. Pride days say: you exist here, and you’re valued. Seeing rainbow flags on jerseys or fields can be life-changing for a kid, an amateur player, or even a pro who’s never felt safe being themselves.

2. Safety and inclusion aren’t automatic
Sport has historically been a tough space for LGBTIQA+ athletes, especially in men’s leagues. Pride days publicly set expectations: homophobia and transphobia aren’t “just banter,” they’re not welcome. That signal matters more than people realise.

3. Role models change culture
When teams, leagues, and athletes visibly support Pride, they normalize acceptance. Fans who might never think about LGBTIQA+ issues get exposed in a positive, non-preachy way—through the thing they already love.

4. Performance improves when people can be themselves
Athletes perform better when they’re not hiding who they are. Inclusion isn’t just morally right; it leads to healthier teams, better mental health, and stronger cohesion.

Pride days aren’t about forcing beliefs—they’re about drawing a clear line around respect, dignity, and inclusion. And that’s something sport, at its core, is supposed to stand for.

Proud Mary encapsulates all these important messages, and we were proud to again welcome members of the rainbow community to SMTC on Saturday.

On behalf of the committee of the club we’d like to wish all of our members, their families and friends a happy and safe festive season.

Don’t forget all of our courts are open all summer so jump on the website to book a time (free for members) and enjoy some summer tennis.

We had a great club champs finals day and Christmas Party - here’s a pic taken by Craig Haslam of the final of our one point slam held on the night which was won by Finlay Tod.

Our section 11 Ladies have broken a long drought and claimed a 2 game victory in last night's grand final! Well deserved for team that has persisted tirelessly over the years!

Our future stars are playing some big finals this weekend.
On Saturday morning we have our Boys section 4 playing thier Grand Final away at Grace Valley as well as our Boys section 13 playing thier Grand Final away at Thomastown.
Before all that, on Friday night our section 3 DVTA team have a home Semi Final against Plenty courtesy of finishing as minor premiers. Well done.
