Anybody who knows me knows I hate surprises. Sarah took me out tonight, ostensibly to meet an old navy friend of hers. Imagine how thrilled I was to see a bunch of Warlord students gathered for " the last supper". Very nice. 😎

Last class done and dusted. Thanks to those who made the effort to come along. Tonight wasn't about the training we did, which was just some basic self defence stuff. It was more about sharing some memories and having a bunch of laughs. We also managed a couple of sneaky drinks at the end.😁

Thanks also to those who have messaged me over the past couple of weeks to share their thoughts with me even though they couldn't make it on the night. Your words meant a lot.

The end of an era. The future starts now 😎

Last class this Thursday 29 June. All welcome. No uniform required, just comfortable training clothes. 5:30 - 6:30 pm.

I started my martial arts journey in 1981 and founded the first Warlord dojo in 1983. Warlord went through a few different changes over the years, with the latest version opening at the rear of Villiers St in 2012 and continuing there until today.

After much deliberation I have decided to close down the dojo/gym as of 29 June 2023. There are a few reasons behind my decision which I won't get into here.

Over the past 40 years I have taught hundreds, maybe even thousands of students. I have enjoyed immensely being able to pass on what limited knowledge I have gained over the years and hope that I have had some impact on the lives of those whom I have come into contact with on the dojo floor.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have crossed the threshold of a Warlord dojo at some point since 1983. It has been an absolute pleasure building a bond with those people through a shared love of the martial arts and the honest sweat generated through the pursuit of knowledge in those arts.

To those students who have been with Warlord since it's reopening in 2012, or joined in the ensuing years and remain training to this day, I understand you may feel some sense of loss with this closure, however if you have learned one thing from me over the past 10 years, it is that we are all our own teachers and that the answers lie within us all, you just have to know how to look.

The closure of the dojo does not mean the end of my martial journey. I have always trained, regardless of whether I had a dojo operating or not, and I will continue to do so. The mats and bags will remain for my personal use and I already have plans for repurposing the space to suit the new direction my life's journey has taken over these past couple of years.

I'll be teaching the last class on 29 June, start time 5.30pm. If you feel like rocking up and training in the last class for old time's sake, you are more than welcome. No uniform required, just comfortable training gear. If I see you there, great, if not, that's not surprising and is one of the reasons I have chosen to close the doors for the final time 🤣.

If you can't make it along but would like to comment on the above post, feel free to post a comment below.

It's been a blast, bitches...........😎

A relaxed post grading photo for Landen Gough and Chris Nacinovic 30-03-23.

Landen Gough achieved his orange prajeet (2nd ranking) through is consistent and diligent efforts. He has the ability to smile and laugh through his adversity and continues to grow, well done.

Chris Nacinovic- first off I'd like to mention that I am a firm believer in earning each rank in singularity as your rank and attitude reflect eachother. This being said, Chris was awarded his orange and blue prajeets (2nd and 3rd rank respectively). Chris studies two systems and works a full time job along with finding time for his home. His consistency and thoughtfulness towards his training has put his attitude and ability beyond the ranks he has been working at. He was tested an extra round of sparring and grappling, being pushed with fair reason to give in and he never did. Well earned grading Chris Nacinovic.

I'd like to thank Sensei Craig Larsen for guiding me through another grading. I look back to the time I worked my way through the ranks but I must have been too full of tension to pay attention to the structure of gradings and so the learning goes on.

I'd like to thank my students for allowing me to be your student 🙏

Always ask yourself "Is my future opponent training today, or did he find an excuse not to."

There are no excuses.

Into my 42nd year and still a passion.

End of the year gradings have seen Landen Gough, Jed Rediger and Chris Cartmill obtain their first ranks and Jack Hatgis has earned his 5th rank Brown.
All students have worked hard on their technique which has shown in their strong grading.

Thankyou to Amy Hall and Alex McPhillips for helping grade our class. Chris also put in a few extra rounds to keep Jack working 💪
