What a weekend of contesting the Australian compact speedcar title!

Night 1 we started off the heats with a throttle sticking which drove me straight into the wall… Somehow not flipping we managed to battle our way into a podium position.

Second and third heats we continued to battle the sticking throttle but managed to snag a win and a second leaving us 3rd on points for the night.

Night 2 we ended our first heat with a DNF as the fuel pump expired on us. The team scrambled to get a fresh unit in and managed to pull it off getting us back out in the nick of time where we came from the back of the pack to grab another second place.

Feature time we started p3. From the get go we settled into 3rd and tried to keep some tyre under the car for the final laps. After getting a big push from the car behind and catching a half spin onto the Infield as a result I put my head down and closed back in on the podium battle. Soon after we got back to the cars battling ahead and we got a free position back onto the podium from there it was a matter of sending it in on the top groove as hard as I could to be there at the end but had to settle for 3rd in the end.

Thank you to all our sponsors who have backed us all the way through our best season yet.

What a crazy night at Lismore speedway full of ups and downs in the Snowie’s firewood #98. As we warmed up the car we found the throttle was sticking and without the tools at the track we had to attach some extra throttle springs, this helped but didn’t fully fix the problem that would hinder us throughout the nights racing.

Heat 1 we managed to battle our way around a juiced up super bumpy track eventually ending up second.

Heat 2 we lead every lap accept the last as contact with another car sent me flipping over. We were lucky not to be collected by any cars as I flipped back onto the track. This ment we unfortunately ended up with a DNF and a banana for a front axle.

Managing to get the car somewhat drivable we went out for heat 3 and battling the same bumpy track we dragged the car to 3rd place.

Feature time we started P3 and got off to a good start considering the damage to the car and the sticky throttle. We fought our way to the lead where shortly after the left rear of the car went away which we later discovered was a leak from our earlier tip over. We lead without fault until a restart where I made a mistake and clipped the restart cone which earned me a 2 spot penalty after the flag. We somehow crossed the line first even with an almost flat left rear and with our penalty setting us back we ended up P3. After having what we consider a terrible night and being upside down in the heat races we are happy to come away with another podium for the seasons points.

We have already started prepping for the Australian title in a few weeks we look forward to getting after it and having a good crack at the tittle. Congratulations to Andrew and Mitch who drove well and put on a great show all night even with a smaller field.

Thank you to our great sponsors and everyone involved in the compacts club.

Heat 1 I drew a decent marble for once getting to start up front in the 3rd spot. We got off to a good start and went to work going upstairs and finding a groove no one else was running. We managed to grab the lead early on and keep it to the end.

Heat 2 we started down the back of the bus. We had an average start and missed the setup a fraction so we had to battle hard through the field making it to 3rd by the end of the race.

Feature time saw us highest points scorer putting us off the front row. From the drop of the green it was head down and get after it for 15 laps on a fast committed track. The team in the pits got the car back in the window giving me a rocket ship again that could run anywhere on the track. The checkered flag waved and we secured our first Paul Messer win! It’s always a privelage to drive a fast racecar backed by amazing people.

All the cars put on an exhilarating show throughout the night with some awesome battling and 5 wide action in the heats but plenty of respect shown between competitors.

It was fantastic to have one of our great sponsors The Ferocious Gentlman up on the hill along with plenty of family all backing us and of course the fresh care package of the finest beard care products money can buy.

Thankyou to all of our great sponsors who get us out here every meeting.

Friday night saw a smaller but solid field of compacts returning to TBAR for another round of full tilt racing.

After getting Rhinovirus during the week I wasn’t sure if we would be racing, but come Friday morning I decided we would head up the hill and see if we could at least get some points towards the club championship. With the decision made about racing it was time to tame the beard and apply the Ferocious gentlemen beard butter in preparation to strap into the Snowie’s firewood hot rod.

Heat 1 we started p9. From the drop of the green we went to work with a fresh set of kempy race pipes singing we searched for some lines whilst battling through the pack. Making our way into second with a few laps to go, whilst moving around the track we managed to find a nice line higher up we wrestled p1 away on the last corner.

Heat 2 saw us out of p10. Seeing the track had widened out I committed to the top of the track once we got under way. This gamble got us up to p4 in the first lap. After that cracking start putting us in the battle a yellow flag saw us slow down for a single file restart. On the start we once again managed to snag the lead and keep it tidy for another solid heat win.

Feature time had us off the front row surrounded by some super fast cars that we had been locking horns with all night. At the drop of the green I stood on the loud pedal and let the JPR engines Jettco developments R1 eat of turn 4. Heading into turn 1 we lost track position and settled into p2. With a slick track it was super hard to pass but keeping the car locked on the inside wall we managed to slip under the car in first. From there on in and a couple of late yellows thrown in the mix it was smooth sailing down in the gutter chasing some moisture.

It was great to come away with a clean sweep whilst feeling very unwell, thanks to everyone that supports us out on track.

Saturday night we headed to Kingaroy speedway! With a freshly trimmed beard and a healthy dose of the Finest beard butter from The Ferocious Gentleman we were ready for the Queensland title night.

Our night started off with hurdles straight away as I drew 22nd out of 22 cars, starting last we battled our way to 5th on a sloppy track.

Heat 2 we started 5th and after some good battles we got to 3rd but got shuffled back to 4th on the last lap after running through the slick and losing some drive.

Heat 3 saw us start p2 from the outside, we managed to hit the top of the track and put in some consistent laps and grab a heat win for some much needed points.

Feature time saw us start from p4. After some yellows and full restarts we finally got the race going and settled into 3rd until a mechanical failure handed us 2nd place. We hung onto this until 2 laps from home when unfortunately the fatigue of 30 laps took its toll and I had to back off and try to hang on unfortunately getting overtaken and finishing 3rd for the night.

Im so very grateful for the opportunity to drive such a competitive racecar each time we turn up to he track with such great sponsors backing us every step of the way. I can’t thank Paul from shock absorber therapy enough for helping us chase the track and keeping my mind on the job all night. Thanks to dad for all the work he does on and off the track as well as Snowie for making the long trip out to support us again.

Thank you to our fantastic sponsors

Roy reckons if you hear a few people whispering “watch the Q98…” they’re not wrong. Q98 Dion Wilson and the whole team have been absolutely on fire lately — four feature wins in a row coming into Kingaroy. 🥜😅

Dion was quick at Kingaroy earlier in the season too, but engine gremlins stopped him getting a crack at the big one… and you can bet he hasn’t forgotten it. He’s coming back to do one thing: put himself right in the fight for that Q1 on the tail tank.

Dion will be lining up in a BHR Razor powered by a Yamaha YZF R1, proudly backed by Snowies Firewood, Beaudesert Motorcycles, Shock Absorber Therapy and Kempy Race Pipes — and Roy’s already called dibs on being the “official hype man” for the Q98 camp (we’ve told him to stay away from the tools). 😅🔧

👇 Drop Dion a welcome to Kingaroy — does Q98 Dion Wilson keep that winning run rolling and land the QLD Title?

Saturday the 31st saw the compacts return to Autobarn Carina International Speedway for this seasons presidents cup. With a stacked field of talented drivers and super quick cars it was a night of fast hard racing to show the fans what they had been missing without compacts.

We began the night with myself starting towards the back of the pack with the goal of moving forwards in each heat race. We wrestled our way from 8th to 3rd shortly followed by heat 2 which saw us progress from 10th to 5th.

Heat 3 we started front row outside, quickly jumping to the lead into turn one it was hammer down and hold on. The track was super fast and Dad had the Snowie’s firewood #98 dialed in as we set our second lap record in as many rounds of racing lowering the time to a 17.158.

Our progress in the heats saw us out of 3rd for the feature race, but after an opening corner incident we got a lucky break and moved up 1 row to start on pole for the restart. Once the lights went green we had a terrible jump off the line and set chase after first. Some side by side laps later we wrestled the lead away and from there it was a case of making sure I hit my marks and making sure the super fast entry speeds didn’t catch us out. Managing the rest of the trace saw us come home for our 4th feature win in a row this season, im so proud of what our little team has acheived in the last 2 seasons as we continue to become faster and more consistent every meeting.

Id like the say a special thankyou to our fantastic sponsor Snowie’s Firewood for driving us all the way to the track and home, as well as supporting our little race team well before we had any sort of success. It is a privilege to travel the country representing your business and of course our other sponsors who make this all possible.

Wow, what a night of racing the compacts put on at Grafton speedway. The track crew at grafton speedway did a fantastic job getting the event run with tricky weather delays and still managing to produce a track that was super fast and technical with multiple lanes producing some full commitment overtakes and the typical action the compacts being to the track.

The Snowie’s firewood #98 rocket started the first heat from the very back of the bus, from the drop of the green it was apparent I underestimated the amount of tear offs needed for the race and by lap 4 I had used all 8. Even with the lack of vision we managed to make some bold overtakes on a tricky track climbing to 4th at the checkered flag.

Heat 2 we started p4. After getting into p2 a couple of laps into the heat we ran down the leader but ran out of laps to battle for the win.

Heat 3 saw us starting p2, from the drop of the green we jumped to the lead and never looked back navigating a very tricky turn 2,we drove home with a great win putting our Shock Absorber Therapy SuperShox to the test over some massive ruts i decided to drive through.

Feature race time saw us highest point scorer and off the pole as the green flag dropped, once again we headed the field into turn 1. The first few laps where hammer down full throttle and commitment luckily dad had the car dialed in and driving hard through the turns. With the kempy pipes screaming and the Jettco injection feeding the beast we focused in on consitent laps whilst navigating back of the pack and getting around lapped traffic without contact and as fast as possible to make sure we held our position out front. Keeping the #98 machine mid track we safely navigated our way to our 3rd feature win in a row.

Tuesday the 30th we headed back to TBAR for another round of racing.

Heat 1 we managed to drive from the back of the bus to P3 on a tricky slippery dusty track. Our second heat of the night we once again managed to battle back to 3rd missing the setup but still finding good pace.

We then had a mad 30 minute dash to throw some big changes at the car chasing a fast developing track. Feature time saw us out of P2 thanks to our solid heat races, after a couple of tries to get the feauture under way we got out dragged into turn 1. From there we had to get to work and apply the pressure on a very technical unforgiving track. Luckily for me the lead car slipped off line just enough for me to get underneath and into the lead after that the aim was to navigate the entry ruts of turn 1 and get as close the the inside wall of turn 3 and 4 as I dared. Unfortunately due to some more stoppages the race was cut short but still super happy to grab another win up the hill.

Thanks to our awesome sponsors and everyone who helps us out to get on the track each meeting.
