The club promotes Kodokan Judo with all practice aiming to be safe, supportive, inclusive and enjoyable. In the years that followed, it quickly became one of the biggest Judo Clubs in Cairns. By 2015, it reached a peak of 100 registered members. From inception, the club maintained a committed approach to looking after all it’s Judo players, both competition and social, aged 5 and above. Historically, 80 % of the club’s participants have been children, predominantly aged under 13 yrs. The club training therefore primarily focused on these members, delivering classes in a manner that best met their judo and personal needs. The club always aspired to practice that was Safe, Supportive, Inclusive and Enjoyable. The club was also founded and built upon a sincere and committed adherance to values based practice, gently encouraging the development of positive social values such as Courage, Politeness, Respect, Honour, Modesty, Friendship, Sincerity and Self-Control. Other clubs or organisations may use these terms for self promotional reasons, however under Luke Ronlund Sensei, these social values were the core basis for training and Judo practice. In 2022, Luke Ronlund Sensei and his family transitioned away from the club, and away from residing in Cairns. However with an excellent facility, permanent sprung floor, large judo mat area, and well developed practices, the club continues to meet the needs of it’s members. Drop into club training anytime and have a look for yourself. The club is confident that it’s approach to Judo practice, especially involving it’s junior participation, is second to none. If you are a Judoka traveling through Cairns on holidays, please contact the club. It will find you a Judogi (judo suit), share a little time on the tatami (judo mats), and build a few judo friendship "bridges". Welcome to Cairns Judo in the style of Cairns Southside Judo Club!
