Over the holidays, Wheatbelt Karate Club had the opportunity to deliver a karate display at the 2026 Connecting Youth Expo.

It was a fantastic event and a great chance to showcase what our students and instructors can do, as well as promote the benefits of karate for young people in our region.

A big thank you to the Shire of Gingin for including us and for their ongoing support, including sponsoring a karate scholarship (along with the Shire of Chittering and the Minderoo Foundation) for a lucky young participant.

We would also like to sincerely thank all of our parents and helpers who came along on the day and supported the display — we couldn’t do it without you.

We are proud to have the opportunity to represent Wheatbelt Karate Club and continue promoting such a positive and inclusive program in our community.

We’re excited to be back on the mats this Tuesday as we start Term 2 — and we’re coming in strong!

We’re also honoured to have Sensei Perrin joining us for a special presentation at 5pm, as well as helping out with training on the night. It’s a fantastic opportunity for all students to learn, be inspired, and continue developing their skills.

🥋 Australian Open 2026 – Wrap Up 🥋

That’s a wrap on the 2026 Australian Open!

After a big couple of days of competition, Madi and Ashlee officially have no events on Day 3… which can only mean one thing — time to swap gis for tourists 😎

Both girls put in some solid performances across the weekend, showed plenty of grit, and walked away with valuable experience against top-level competition. Always proud of the way they step up, no matter the result.

Today though, it’s all about making the most of being in Sydney — a bit of well-earned sightseeing, some downtime, and maybe even pretending they’re not sore from two days of fighting.

Huge effort all around, and as always, we’ll take the lessons, build from it, and come back even better next time.

Now… let’s see how they go navigating Sydney without a referee or martial to guide them 😂

🥋 Day 2 – Australian Open Wrap-Up 🥋

Another big day on the mats at the Aus Open!

Madi stepped up in the U21 division and got things rolling with a solid win in her first fight 💪 Unfortunately dropped the second, but came back firing in the bronze medal match, where she lifted again, sharper and more aggressive, earning herself a well-deserved 🥉 bronze medal.

Backing it up later in the day in the Senior Women’s division, Madi faced a tough first round match and wasn’t able to get through — but no one can question the effort after a full day of high-level competition.

Proud is an understatement. These are the days that build experience, resilience, and future wins.

On to the next one 🔥

🥋 Day 1 – Australian Open 🥋

Ashlee hit the mats today competing in both kata and kumite and gave it everything she had 💪

Strong performances across the board, showing great skill, composure, and fight… just falling short of the medals this time.

Couldn’t be prouder of the effort and attitude. That’s what it’s all about 👊

We learn, we improve, and we come back stronger… and you can bet we’ll be back next year 🔥

🥋 Huge Congratulations to Our Wheatbelt Dojos Grading Success! 🥋

What an incredible achievement for our clubs!

After two intense days of training under the guidance of visiting representatives from Wado Kai Japan and New Zealand, followed by a seriously tough grading session…

👏 Sensei Madi and Ashlee have officially earned their Shodan (1st Dan) Black Belts! 🖤
👏 And Sensei Lauren has achieved her Nidan (2nd Dan)! 🔥

This isn’t just about belts — it’s a reflection of years of dedication, early mornings, long drives, hard lessons, resilience, and the kind of commitment that most people never truly understand.

Madi, stepping into her role as Sensei while achieving this milestone makes it even more special. Leading by example, pushing others, and still pushing herself — that’s what true martial arts spirit looks like.

Ashlee, your determination and toughness have been next level. You’ve earned every bit of this, and it’s been incredible watching your journey.

Sensei Lauren, achieving Nidan is a testament to your continued commitment to growth, leadership, and the countless hours you put into both your own training and supporting the club. This is a huge milestone and so well deserved.

The Wheatbelt dojo couldn’t be prouder. This is a massive moment not just for each of you, but for our whole club and community.

Now the real journey begins… 👊

Congratulations Sensei Madi, Ashlee & Sensei Lauren — incredible achievements all around! 🥋🔥
