Hi divers. Andrew here. Just wanted to share an update with you all. I have had to hang up my regs and put diving behind me.
2 weeks ago I suffered a pulmonary embolism (blood clots in the lungs). I still have a collapsed lower lobe of the left lung and am now only suffering discomfort and some difficulty breathing. I am on a strong dose of blood thinners and will remain on that medication for life. I can feel the clots are starting to resolve but it is going to be a long journey. The medication and damage to my lungs will prevent me from diving again.
On of the risk factors that I have is that what happened cannot be attributed to anything - no recent flights or surgery or traumas. And they don’t believe it was caused by the AZ jabs. And no, diving didn’t cause it either!!!!
I am in the great care of a haematologist in Brisbane and he is committed to finding out why this has happened and preventing a recurrence.
My last dive will be most memorable for me. It was at Lady Musgrave Island on my 60th birthday. And we had 2 awesome manta rays put on a show.
As you can imagine I am heartbroken about not being able to dive again. But I am glad to be alive.
Carolyn has been my absolute rock and so supportive. But she did say that I wasn’t allowed to sell her dive gear!
