Lawn Bowls - One on one & group coaching. Team building & goal setting sessions. One on one coaching sessions can be tailored to suit individuals specific needs.

Matthew Lucas is an accredited Lawn Bowls coach with extensive experience in the game. Matthew is able to facilitate tailored One on One and Group coaching sessions, as well as Team Building and Goal Setting sessions for clubs. Additionally Matthew offers video analysis with commentary for students to retain for reference. Group coaching session are a hit with clubs who have had an influx of brand

new bowlers or who have a competitive group eager to take their next step. Group sessions cover technique and process as well as guidance and theories on playing the game. Team building and Goal setting sessions are available to clubs/teams who are keen to improve on and off the greens. Matthew can provide guidance to clubs/teams by helping to define direction and cut a path towards an ultimate goal.

Bowls Queensland is proud to announce 𝙆𝙚𝙡𝙨𝙚𝙮 𝘾𝙤𝙩𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙡 and 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙬 𝙇𝙪𝙘𝙖𝙨 as Mentor Coaches for our Queensland Under-18 Team heading to the Australian Under-18 Championships in Perth this October.

Between them, Kelsey and Matt bring experience from the highest levels of the sport, and now they’ll have the opportunity to share that knowledge with Queensland’s next generation. 🌟

Their role will go beyond bowls, providing guidance, leadership and support while helping our young athletes understand what it means to wear the maroon and represent Queensland.

A huge thank you to St Lucia Bowling Club for having me down over the past two Sundays to conduct group coaching clinics.

It was fantastic to work with such a great group of bowlers across two sessions, covering everything from green technical coaching and pre-shot routines to game mentality and match simulation.

But what really stood out to me was the club itself.

St Lucia has that beautiful, authentic Bowls Club feel. A welcoming clubhouse, great people, a fantastic atmosphere and a genuine love for the game. It’s exactly the sort of environment that makes lawn bowls such a great sport.

And they certainly know how to put on a barefoot bowls function!
After our clinic on Sunday, the club turned around and set up for a function of around 250 barefoot bowlers — and from what I saw, they were having an absolute ball! 🎉🥂

So if you're looking for a great venue for a barefoot bowls function, I can highly recommend getting in touch with the team at St Lucia.

Results are never guaranteed in sport, that’s why I believe if you trust and follow your processes the results get in your way.

Winning the 2026 Queensland State Singles title in my final State Championships campaign was a proud moment — not just personally, but as a reflection of the key principles I speak about through coaching.

Using an information-based approach to navigate each situation, bowl by bowl, while trusting the processes I had put in place to execute each shot to the best of my ability, allowed me to stay calm and make clear decisions throughout the entire campaign.

Those are the same principles I focus on through Decisive Deliveries coaching. Helping players develop clarity, confidence, routines, and the ability to execute consistently is what one on one coaching is all about for me.

I look forward to continuing to help players improve and enjoy the game.

It was an absolute pleasure to spend the afternoon at Wellington Point Bowls Club with a fantastic, attentive group of juniors and an eager team of open age bowlers.
