So we teamed up with .wallace to show how we keep things cold a little differently.

For decades we’ve all accepted the same routine.

Need ice?

Go buy a bag.

Watch it melt.

Throw the bag away.

Repeat next weekend.

And somehow nobody ever stopped to ask if there was a better way.

The funny thing is, most Australians don’t realise how much time, money and waste goes into keeping things cold until they actually stop and think about it.

This isn’t a shot at bagged ice.

We’ve all bought it.

We still do from time to time.

But when a system relies on constantly buying the same thing over and over again, it’s worth asking whether it’s really the best solution available.

“This has been sitting in my car for a week.”

Most people hear that and assume we’re talking about a dead battery, mouldy food or a terrible smell.

Not an esky.

Yet somehow there’s still ice left.

This is exactly why we’ve become obsessed with finding better ways to keep things cold.

Because nobody enjoys opening an esky a few hours into a trip and finding nothing but cold water.

A little while ago we sent a few of our trays out to and asked if he’d be willing to give them a crack and let us know what he thought.

Not only did he take the time to try them out, he was kind enough to sit down and film this video sharing his thoughts with us.

As a small Aussie business, moments like this genuinely mean a lot.

Mark has spent a lifetime on the water, so hearing that he could immediately see the value in what we’re doing was pretty special.

We started Freeflo a couple of years ago from our garage with a simple goal: help Aussies keep things colder for longer.

To now have people like Mark taking the time to support what we’re building is something we’re incredibly grateful for.

A huge thank you to Mark for giving the gear a go and for taking the time to put this together. 🍻🎣

Nothing ruins a trip faster than weak ice.

You spend hours planning the trip.

Packing the gear.

Loading the boat.

Filling the car.

Getting everyone organised.

Only to open the esky a few hours later and discover your ice has already turned into a puddle.

Warm drinks.

Soggy food.

And a last-minute stop to buy more.

The craziest part?

Most Australians have accepted this as completely normal.

Technically... yes.

The same way a reusable water bottle replaces thousands of disposable ones.

The same way a reusable shopping bag replaces hundreds of single-use bags.

The same way a reusable coffee cup replaces disposable cups.

The difference is these aren’t designed to be used once.

They’re designed to be frozen, used, and thrown back in the freezer again.

And again.

And again.

And again.

Over 1,000+ uses from a single bag isn’t uncommon.

The clue is in the name...

When we first started Freeflo, we became obsessed with a simple question.

Why are we constantly buying ice?

Fishing trip? Buy ice.

Camping trip? Buy ice.

BBQ? Buy ice.

Road trip? Buy ice.

It’s just one of those things Australians have always done.

So when we launched our reusable ice cubes, we knew there’d be plenty of scepticism.

To be fair, “ice that never melts” sounds pretty ridiculous at first.

But that’s exactly why so many people stop scrolling when they see them.

The first reaction is usually:

“Hang on... how does that work?”

The second reaction is usually:

“Why haven’t I seen these before?”

The reality is they’re designed to solve some of the biggest frustrations that come with traditional bagged ice.

No watery mess.

No soggy food.

No constantly buying more ice.

Just freeze them, use them, and throw them back in the freezer ready for next time.

Now thousands of Aussies have made them part of their camping, fishing, boating and weekend setups.

And judging by the reactions we still get, plenty of people are seeing them for the very first time.

We decided to do a little experiment…

We grabbed our Meta glasses, a bag of our reusable ice cubes, and started handing them out to complete strangers to see what they thought.

The reactions were great, but the biggest surprise?

Two people already knew who Freeflo was.

As a small Aussie business that started in a garage just two years ago, that was pretty surreal.

It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and forget that real people are actually seeing what you’re building.

I reckon we’ve all been conditioned to spend way too much on ice. 🧊

Think about it.

Heading out fishing? Buy ice.

Camping for the weekend? Buy ice.

Family BBQ? Buy ice.

Road trip? Buy ice.

It’s become such a normal part of Aussie life that most of us never stop to think about how much we’re actually spending on it.

A few dollars here.
A few dollars there.

Over months and years, it adds up surprisingly fast.

Now obviously there are times when buying ice makes complete sense, and we’re definitely not saying nobody should ever buy it.

But if you’re someone who’s regularly filling eskies, coolers or ice baths, it’s worth asking yourself:

How much have you spent on ice over the last 12 months?

I reckon the answer would shock a lot of people.

Don’t get us started on the plastic bags!
