What a full circle moment…

10 years ago, Bertie took a chance and hired me as a Mindset Performance Coach - which at the time, was just a concept not an established role.

I’d pitched that I could help improve retention within his nationwide sales company. He didn’t know what that looked like (and neither did I, really).

But some part of me knew I had the ability to do it, and some part of him believed me.

He said, “I want your energy in my company, so I’ll pay you a salary, you create the role, and we’ll reassess in a few months.”

And that was the beginning.

I was given the opportunity to speak at multiple conferences, allowing me to hone my craft as a keynote speaker.

And now, 10 years later, I was invited back to speak at another of their conferences. It filled me with joy to see Bertie’s face again, the man who bet on a young woman.

I’m proud of who she became.

I have always lived my life in a very particular way…

I will make choices based on what I feel, not what I understand.

And it has never led me astray.
Has it caused tremendous difficulty? Yes.
Has it caused heartbreak? Definitely.
Has it created the most incredible life for me? Absolutely.

Many times I have made a decision that didn’t “make sense”,
And every time, what unfolded was better than any plan.

365 days ago I made one of these decisions again…

I left the life I knew on the Gold Coast, to discover something new in Maryborough.
I took a chance on us. I bet on you.

And as has been the case with all my leaps into the unknown,
It’s come with challenges, heartaches, and so much unexpected reward.
It’s been beautiful.
It’s been exactly what life is about.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘂𝗽-𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 - 𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡𝙮…

𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

It took me 2 𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨 to write down a whole new business structure,

To map out what my new offerings would and wouldn’t be anymore, and to determine the new price points.

𝗔𝗻𝗱,

It’s taken me 2 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨 of 𝘒𝘕𝘖𝘞𝘐𝘕𝘎 it’s time to change my business structure before doing so.

𝙒𝙝𝙮?

It’s easy to know you could be scaling your business,
It’s easy enough to figure out how to do that,
And it’s certainly enticing to want to rush it, especially when so many others in your industry are doing it.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴.

For someone who is inherently impatient I also hold a strong sense of responsibility - which acts as the counter balance to my impatience,
It prevents me from rushing into things before I’m prepared.

Because when you’re in any position of leadership and influence - growth without internal preparation is damaging to others.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗲?

Am I able to hold judgement?
Can I hold disappointment?
Can I hold the projections of others?
Am I able to manage my own projections?
Do I know the difference between sharing and convincing; between supporting and saving?
Do I embody what I’m coaching?
Do I believe the value I offer is worth the investment?
Have I learned to empower by allowing others to support me instead of needing to be the only one who supports?
Have I triple checked the purity of my intentions?
Am I willing to hold more responsibility which greater impact requires?

Many people have told me 𝘞𝘏𝘈𝘛 to do to scale in my industry.
But what no one can tell me is 𝘞𝘏𝘌𝘕 to do it… because that answer can only be discerned by my inner wisdom.

Could I scale? Easily.
Many others do it this way, should I? Possibly.
Should I do it now? Well... are you ready... can you hold it… what will you do with it.

I was a teenager with this quote on my wall, next to Chad Michael Murray. So you could say I’ve lived most of my life by these words...

“Don’t give up what you want most, for what you want now”

I couldn’t tell you what about 14yr old Jess resonated so deeply with them, but it’s one of a few imprints I can see shaped my life.

It’s kept me far-sighted and intentional -
I first need to know what it is I want most.

It’s kept me discerning and committed -
I won’t say yes to anything that will contradict or undermine what I ultimately want.

It’s kept me from settling -
I have an uncommon lack of compromise for accepting less than I want for myself.

I will live the life I dream of, not the life I settled for.

And the key to achieving your dreams; your dream job, your dream relationship, your dream life is this…

If it’s not fully what you want - it’s not what you want.

If there’s fragments of what you’re hoping for, but a lot of pieces missing - it’s not what you want. Wait for the real thing. Increase your faith that it’s coming.

Because,

What you truly want can’t come to you if you’ve already filled the space with a faux-version of it.

Someone tells you they’re not looking for anything serious

They want casual
They’re not emotionally available, they can’t commit to anything right now, but they really like getting to know you.

And yet, they open up to you emotionally
They show vulnerability, they want intimacy with you physically and through connection
It’s obvious they want to spend plenty of time with you
They’re even there for you when you talk about difficulties you’re going through
And they share with you some of what they’re going through too.

OKAY, WAIT!
What’s the difference between this and being in a relationship?

[ Insert copious amounts of confusion and finding yourself in the fast-lane to a situationship ]

Well maybe they don’t actually mean it when they say they’re not emotionally available then?
Or they’ve changed their mind
Because they’re being very emotional with me.

So, you get more involved
You let your guard down, see how this plays out, it seems they’re investing more now so you will too.

But then, they do something to hurt you.
You initiate a conversation about how they’re making you feel
You’d like them to engage in that conversation, perhaps even take accountability, you feel you’re at least owed an explanation!

Now, you’re ghosted.
Or they’ve pulled back, gone cold, want to spend less time with you
It feels like a handbrake was just pulled on an otherwise pleasant drive.

“What happened?!”

You’re left ruminating, obsessing, discussing it endlessly to try and uncover the clues of what happened.
