Happy Trans Day of Visibility!

Trans people have always existed. Polynesian Fa’afafine, Native American Two Spirit and Mexican Muxes are just a few historical examples.

We’re ordinary humans, we’re someone’s child, we’re someone sibling, we’re someone’s partner, we’re part of the community. We are human, just like you.

Australian WCMX wouldn’t be where it is today without the contributions of transgender and gender diverse people.

To all the young trans folks out there, particularly in Queensland, it will get better. Queensland once led the country in access to hormones for under 18s, I believe the pendulum will swing back eventually. In the meantime we must keep fighting for the reversal of the HRT ban. Access to gender affirming care as a minor is the reason I am still here today. I want to see the next generation of trans kids thriving, not just surviving.

This is what passes for “accessible” tourism.

An indoor-only stair climber powered by a lithium battery is being used on an outdoor bridge climb.

During the trial, the chair lost power halfway up the stairs.

I had clearly consented only if two staff controlled the chair at all times.

Instead, I was lowered by one person while the chair tipped forward.

I repeatedly asked for two staff.

That request was ignored.

The equipment used was sold for trial and study only; not public use.

Its own safety data warns against exposure to sunlight and humidity.

Both exist on the bridge.

I stayed upright by gripping the rails and forcing my body back onto the stairs while the climber tipped forward.

All concerns have now been reported to workplace safety, consumer protection and human rights regulators.

Since raising safety concerns, I’ve received denial and legal threats.

Here’s the part that matters:
🚨 Accessibility is not a PR exercise.
🚨 Disabled people are not test subjects.
🚨 “World-first” means nothing if it isn’t safe.

I want accessible adventures to exist.

But access without safety isn’t inclusion; it’s risk transferred onto disabled bodies.

Disabled people shouldn’t have to risk their lives to participate in the world.

Real inclusion is more than visibility. It’s safety, respect and disabled leadership.
Skateparks, curb cuts, elevators and automatic doors all began with disability in mind, and now everyone benefits.
When disability leads, progress follows.
