🥋 EVERY MARTIAL ARTIST HAS A STORY…
Meet……..Ramesh 55kg slim build, brown eyes and very serious! 😂👊. And probably one of the nicest , most helpful people in our beautiful dojo community.
🔥 What first got you started in martial arts?
The all Boys High School I attended in NSW offered Judo through the Police Boys Club PCYC in Parramatta. I enjoyed learning how to roll, throw and redirecting energy got me hooked! It gave me skills such that always being the David in the David and Goliath myth I could overcome the intimidation that comes with a smaller physical stature. Especially useful in a Boys High School!
💭 What was your biggest fear walking into your first class?
There was a general fear of how's this going to work out and self pressure to do well along with self doubt, but as it turned out the students were so friendly and the Sensei teaching relaxed that before I knew those notions disappeared.
🥋 What’s one moment in training you’ll never forget?
My first class, Kyushu explanation by Sensei Adam. At this point I knew I was an a Dojo that teaches Dan level concepts from day 1.
💪 What challenge have you overcome through martial arts?
After two very serious back to back car accidents that affected my knees with pain, I did quietly struggle with not being able to practice Karate however after several years I did get better. It was about my ability to harness my inner perseverance and that's what Karate develops.
👊 Who has had the biggest impact on your journey so far?
Sensei Adam, Sensei Akis, Sensei Brendan, Sensei Sammy, Sensei John and Sensei Kuzumi and my kids for keeping me fully humble through their play teasing me whilst I practice at home!
🏆 What achievement are you most proud of (big or small)?
Every so often, junior students will simply ask me to help them and that makes me really proud to know they sense I'm approachable (rather than being beyond reproach because of my ranking or belt colour) as this is how I wish to be known.
🧠 How has martial arts changed you outside the dojo?
Made me ever more thankful and more thoughtful about the sacrifices the Sensei's make to teach Karate. Also given my work/home life balance a good nudge such that I have an, 'outlet' just for my own wellbeing and growth. (Any one with kids/teens knows what I talking about!)
⏳ What keeps you coming back week after week?
The Sensei's teaching along with their deep insight and the many diverse students. Also the Kumite and Weapons classes continuously feed back into my karate development.
🎯 What’s your next goal in your training?
To improve the smoothness of my receive and delivery of techniques and to step heavily, and to practice Kime, and to develop my tandun, and to just be better than yesterday!
❤️ What does martial arts mean to you?
Without having found this style of Karate which truly teaches ancient martial art concepts I would be just another student at an another dojo without the true in-depth insight into techniques and language to explain it.
🎥 What is your favourite martial arts movie?
Drunken Monkey and anything with Jet Li from 1993 to 1996.
👊 Did you have any experience in martial arts before joining Chito Ryu Karate Do?
Indeed yes, Judo, Tang Soo Do, Miyagikan Go Gu Ryu.
See you in the dojo 👊🥋🙏
