Keluarga Silat Nasional Indonesia Perisai-Diri, or Kelatnas PD, was officially founded on 2 July 1955 in the city of Surabaya by Raden Mas Soebandiman Dirdjoatmodjo
Pak dirdjo as he is know to his students travelled extensively throughout Indonesia learning at least twelve Silat styles. Pak Dirdjo then combined all of the different styles he had mastered into one complete system. Dirdjoatmodjo’s e

fforts was the birth of the technique and training system of Silat Perisai-Diri, characterised as being practical, with techniques that adhered to the natural movement of the human body, resulting in a effective system of self-defence that was simple in application. The training also incorporates a number of weapons including the double sticks, staff, knife, swords, walking stick and sickles. The training with weapons builds confidence and control both physically and emotionally and will provide the practitioner with a better understanding of defensive applications with empty hand moves.
