Why do some clients get the shakes when doing feet in straps exercises?

Your nervous system’s job is to send messages from your brain to your muscles telling them:
• how hard to work
• when to relax
• when to stabilise

When a movement is new or unfamiliar (like feet-in-straps), your brain isn’t totally sure which muscles should be doing most of the work yet.

So instead of a smooth, confident message like:

“Glutes do 60%, hamstrings 25%, inner thighs 15%… nice and steady”

It sends something more like:

“EVERYONE HELP. NOW. Too much? Okay stop. Wait… go again.”

That rapid on–off, on–off firing of muscles is what you see as shaking.

Those deep stabilisers (especially around the hips and core) often don’t get much attention in everyday movement or gym workouts, so the nervous system over-recruits muscles at first to make sure you don’t lose control.

The shaking isn’t your muscles giving up.
It’s your nervous system learning precision.

As the brain gets better at:
• recognising the movement
• trusting the stabilisers
• coordinating effort

The signals calm down… and the shake settles.

So as entertaining as it is for us 😉 this little shake-fest does calm down over time.
