Girls, here’s the thing about Strength Training that you need to know! Holding the same little pair of dumbbells and repeatedly performing 15+ repetitions of a squat or bicep curl etc is not Strength Training. Most people’s handbags will weigh more than this. Plus all you mums out there with young children that you lift constantly throughout the day, your children weigh more then the dumbbells you are repeatedly training with.

There are two words that you need to become familiar with if you are serious about getting strong and reaping the benefits of weight training - Progressive Overload.

Progressive overload is a key concept in strength training. It’s the process of gradually increasing the amount of stress placed on your muscles over time, so they can adapt and become stronger. This process helps you to avoid plateaus while continuing to build muscle and increase strength. You need to continually be increasing the weight that you are lifting to create a stimulus for your body to adapt to. Then keep repeating this process!

Strength Training is essential if you want to improve joint function, increase bone density, build muscle mass, improve tendon and ligament strength and look and feel good !

I’m going to continue to post training advice even after the gym closes this Saturday. Because, quite frankly there is so much s**t information out there about training and nutrition and so many people that shouldn’t be Trainers giving crappy advice .

During the next few weeks unfortunately I will not be taking on any new clients at the gym. The gym will permanently be closed from Saturday 2nd March. The gym is not for sale and it will not be reopened after this date by another manager.

The timing just feels right for me. I’m going to go out on a High. It’s been 10 fantastic years in this gym. Even longer when you Include our great outdoor training sessions at the park. The gym has never been busier, the gym community spirit has never been stronger, it’s such vibe to be around every day, and Physically and mentally I’m in the best condition I’ve ever been. I’ve never been more passionate and focused about fitness and my training than I currently am.

However all good things must come to an end eventually and it’s time for me to close this chapter.

From Saturday 2nd of March 2024 Pure NRG Strength & Conditioning will no longer continue operating as a public gym.

Words will never express just how much this gym has meant to me. I don’t quite think anyone will fully understand just how many hours and love I have put into this place and the pure enjoyment I have got out of doing it. It really hasn’t just been a job and workplace , it has been my entire life for 10 years. A fantastic chapter in my life that im closing because another very exciting one is just beginning for me and my family. It’s bittersweet for me because whilst I’m so excited and eager for my new chapter to begin I know just how many of you are going to miss the gym and you all mean so much to me that it’s very hard to let you down. You have all become my friends and so many of you are extended family to me!

Running my own business for over 10 years now with 4:30am wake ups every morning barely missing a day ever whilst being a full time mum and raising my children who have turned into the most gorgeous little adults has certainly been character building and I couldn’t be prouder of how I have handled it and how they have handled it and who we’ve all become. None of this could of ever even been possible without the continuous help and support from my parents. They have been here for me, Bella & Cooper 100% of the time and have never let us down. You Mum and Dad are worth your weight in gold ten times over and that doesn’t even cover half of it.

I post this with not only sad tears but also very happy tears of the beautiful memories that this gym has created for me and of the opportunity that it’s given me to meet so many wonderful people along the way. I’ll never forgot it.

The event I knew Cassie Howard would dominate! I program ALOT of Deadlifts! And for good reason. It’s the King of the Lifts! Maximum strength gains!

Event 3 was a Car Deadlift. 160kg - Max reps in a minute. The other competitors in this division couldn’t move it.

Cass got 9 Reps!

I am thankful every single day that 14 years ago i got way out of my comfort zone and joined a gym. I was sick of my own excuses. I decided that I no longer wanted to be overweight,lethargic, unhappy and unhealthy. You only live once, and I wanted to feel good about myself. I wanted to be energetic and healthy to be able to give my children a good life and to be around for a very long time.

I hear so often that everything goes down hill from 40! You start to get aches and pains, you gain weight, etc etc. I highly disagree with this opinion. I’m 41 and I am continually getting fitter and stronger each week. How ? Because of the lifestyle choices I make. I choose to lift heavy weights daily , I choose to do cardiovascular exercises daily, I choose to walk a minimum of 10,000 steps daily, I choose to eat a well balanced diet full of Protein, Carbohydrates, Good Fats and plenty of micro nutrients and I choose to have the discipline to do all of these things even on the days I don’t want to. It may sound hard! But I can tell you it’s much harder being overweight, being unhappy, having medical problems, being lazy and having no energy for my children , and not being fit enough to do all the things I want to do each day.

As you’re watching this video you might be thinking but I can’t do any of that stuff. And you are right, you can’t. But neither could I when I first started. But this didn’t stop me from starting. You just have to start. Exercise is like everything else in life, it’s a skill. And the more you practice that skill the better you get at it and In return you start noticing results.

Its never to late to start! It’s never too late to change your habits and make the choice to start living a healthy lifestyle ! Your body will always respond positively to exercise. It’s not easy to begin with but I promise you that you will definitely not regret it.

I practise daily what I preach ! And I actively try every day to promote the benefits of exercise to anyone that will listen to me !

Don’t wait until Monday! Go for a walk today. Start to incorporate a few small new healthy habits and master those. Slowly add more and more and before you know it all the small changes start to add up to big changes 😁
