FUNDING COMMITMENT FOR GLENUNGA OVALS: We are excited to announce almost $200,000 in local sporting grants has been pledged to support the reconstruction of the ovals at Glenunga Reserve.

Glenunga Reserve is one of Burnside’s premier recreational reserves, consisting of the Glenunga Hub facility, two ovals, a playground and an on-site cafΓ©. The ovals host four sporting clubs playing Australian rules football and soccer in the winter, and cricket and little athletics in the summer. The oval is also frequently used by our community and Glenunga International High School. With such heavy use and an unsuitable soil type on the ovals, there are many instances where the playing surface becomes nearly unusable, with bare areas lacking turf cover and a compacted and muddy surface during winter.

To ensure the fields are fit for purpose and can be used sustainably, the reconstruction project will see the removal of the current turf and the installation of a sand base over a new sub-surface drainage system, along with new turf and irrigation.

We are extremely grateful for the $150,000 pledged from the SA Football Facilities Fund (administered by SANFL) and the $40,000 pledged from the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund (administered by South Australian Cricket Association and Cricket Australia). Thank you to our local clubs for your ongoing support and advocacy.

We will continue to actively advocate for State Government funding to bring this project to life.

πŸ”₯ Semi-Final Showdown – C Grade (L03) πŸ”₯

It was do-or-die, and the stage was set for a blockbuster semi-final… but it was Payneham who came out firing. Winning the toss and choosing to bat, they built pressure from the start and powered their way to a massive 254 all out in 39.5 overs.
Glenunga fought back with the ball β€” Harsha leading the charge with 3/51, while Manjula kept things tight with 2/25 β€” but the target was always going to be a big one.

The chase didn’t get off to the ideal start, with early wickets putting Glenunga on the back foot. Just when things looked tough, Pasindu and Harsha stepped up, showing fight and determination with a crucial partnership that gave hope to the dugout. πŸ’ͺ
But the pressure of the chase proved too much in the end… Glenunga were bowled out for 136 in 32.3 overs, falling short by 118 runs.

πŸ’₯ Key Performers

Pasindu – 35 (44)
Harsha – 27 (46)
Manjula – 20 (20)

🚨 Final Result

Glenunga’s journey ends at the semi-final stage… not the finish they wanted, but a season full of effort, resilience, and fight.

Heads up, boys β€” we go again stronger next season. πŸ’™πŸ”₯

Semi-Final Time: Rams Ready to Rise! πŸ’™πŸ€

After a long season with plenty of weather interruptions, finals are finally here! Huge congratulations to our C Grade (LO3) team, finishing 2nd after an incredible late surge with a 5-match winning streak πŸ‘

A consistent team effort all season saw the boys secure a home semi-final, with strong contributions across the board. With other grades just missing out, let’s get around the boys this weekend and show our support at Webb Oval. The bar will be open and kitchen running, perfect chance to get down to the Hub, enjoy the day, and back the team! 🍻

🏏 Glenunga Cricket Club – Weekly Match Summary 🏏

A Grade πŸ”₯

Glenunga won the toss and batted first, building steadily through Sampath (28), Suresh (27), and Nuwan (61). After a mid-innings slowdown, Pubudu exploded with 58 off 24 balls (4 sixes, 6 fours) with a strike rate of 241, lifting the total to 222/8, including 67 runs in the last 5 overs.

Defending the target, Old Concordians got off to a strong start (119 opening stand) and were 160/3 in 34 overs, but Glenunga held their nerve late, with Pubudu and Suresh closing it out to secure a thrilling 16-run victory to finish the season on a high πŸ’ͺ

B grade πŸ’”

Tough result for Glenunga C1, falling short by 35 runs against Fulham C1.

Chasing 249, the boys put up a strong fight but finished on 213. A brilliant 86 from the skipper led the charge, but the knock wasn’t enough to get us over the line.

Heartbreaking end to the season as we narrowly miss out on a spot in the semis by the smallest of margins. Plenty of fight shown. we’ll come back stronger. πŸ’ͺ🏏

C Grade πŸ†

Marion were bowled out for 103 in 31.4 overs, with Pasindu (3/20) leading the attack, supported by Sachira and Hasitha with two wickets each.

In reply, skipper Sachira dominated with 70 off 34 (10 fours, 4 sixes)* as Glenunga chased the target in just 11.4 overs with 8 wickets in hand. A dominant win that secures 2nd place and a spot in the Finals Round 01 πŸ”₯

D Grade πŸ’ͺ

Woodville Rechabite were restricted to 118/9 (40 overs) thanks to strong bowling from Ashley (3/24), with Charlie and Gurjinder taking two wickets each.

Glenunga chased comfortably, reaching the target in 38.2 overs with 5 wickets in hand, led by Ravi’s 68 (119). A solid performance to close out the season on a high πŸ‘

πŸ’™ A fantastic finish to the season with strong wins across grades β€” momentum building heading into finals!

🏏 Glenunga Cricket Club – Weekly Match Summary 🏏

Glenunga won the toss and elected to bat first, but the decision didn’t go as planned as wickets fell regularly throughout the innings. Despite the collapse, Dilusha showed resilience with a fighting 22 (66) before Glenunga were bowled out for 67 in 35.3 overs.

Defending the small total, Glenunga kept competing with the ball. Nuwan (3/21) and Ishan (2/19) tried to keep the pressure on, but Payneham chased the target comfortably with 9 wickets in hand, finishing on 140/7 in 40 overs, ending Glenunga’s semi-final hopes.

B Grade

Glenunga won the toss and posted 140 all out in 38.2 overs, with contributions across the batting lineup. Janakan (22) and Nitin (22) were the top scorers, while Rohan and Benji added 21 each.

Defending the total, Glenunga’s bowlers produced a strong effort, bowling Reynella out for 125 in 39.2 overs in a tight contest. Nitin and Atul claimed 2 wickets each, with Tom and Mahesh also picking up wickets. The win strengthens Glenunga’s position in the semi-final race.

C Grade

Old Ignatians won the toss and chose to bat first, but Glenunga’s bowlers dominated from the start, dismissing them for 105 in 27.3 overs. Gayan (3/23) and Jaliya (2/18) led the attack, while Sachira, Harsha, and Sashika chipped in with a wicket each.
Glenunga chased the target comfortably in 17.1 overs with 4 wickets in hand. Sumil (26), Hasitha (14), and Sachira (13) guided the team home. The victory keeps Glenunga second on the ladder with a strong semi-final position.

D Grade

Payneham batted first and posted a competitive 223/4 in 40 overs. Akila, Gurjinder, and Sehas picked up a wicket each.

In reply, Glenunga lost early wickets but recovered well through Cameron (37) and Ravi, who played a sensational innings of 128 (105, 17 fours) to keep the chase alive. After support from William (24), Glenunga were pushing for victory before Ravi was run out. The innings ended at 214/5 in 40 overs, falling just short in a hard-fought match.

πŸ’™ A mixed weekend across the grades, with strong performances and important wins in B and C Grade while the others fought hard until the end.
