FUNDING COMMITMENT FOR GLENUNGA OVALS: We are excited to announce almost $200,000 in local sporting grants has been pledged to support the reconstruction of the ovals at Glenunga Reserve.
Glenunga Reserve is one of Burnsideβs premier recreational reserves, consisting of the Glenunga Hub facility, two ovals, a playground and an on-site cafΓ©. The ovals host four sporting clubs playing Australian rules football and soccer in the winter, and cricket and little athletics in the summer. The oval is also frequently used by our community and Glenunga International High School. With such heavy use and an unsuitable soil type on the ovals, there are many instances where the playing surface becomes nearly unusable, with bare areas lacking turf cover and a compacted and muddy surface during winter.
To ensure the fields are fit for purpose and can be used sustainably, the reconstruction project will see the removal of the current turf and the installation of a sand base over a new sub-surface drainage system, along with new turf and irrigation.
We are extremely grateful for the $150,000 pledged from the SA Football Facilities Fund (administered by SANFL) and the $40,000 pledged from the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund (administered by South Australian Cricket Association and Cricket Australia). Thank you to our local clubs for your ongoing support and advocacy.
We will continue to actively advocate for State Government funding to bring this project to life.
