Flyball Tasmania

Flyball Tasmania Flyball is run in teams of four dogs, as a relay. The course consists of four hurdles. Ideal running is nose-to-nose at the start line.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Flyball is a dog sport in which teams of dogs race against each other from a start/finish line, over a line of hurdles, to a box that releases a tennis ball to be caught when the dog presses the spring loaded pad, then back to their handlers while carrying the ball. The hurdle height is determined by the shoulder height of the smallest dog in the team. Each do

g must return its ball all the way across the start line before the next dog crosses. The first team to have all four dogs cross the finish line error free wins the heat. Penalties are applied to teams if the ball is dropped or if the next relay dog is released early. History
Flyball started as a dog sport in the late 1960s and early 1970s, in Southern California. Some dog trainers combined scent hurdle racing with the dogs bringing back a tennis ball to the finish line. Then a tennis ball-launching apparatus was added and the first flyball box was born. Herbert Wagner is credited with making the first real flyball box, and he also demonstrated flyball on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

Well, what a great day we had at our pairs Flyball comp. The idea is to give our up and coming dogs some race experience and to iron out any issues we may have for our dogs who are aiming to go to Nationals.
We welcomed into the ring Indi and Jerry from our St Helen's group and didn't the smash it. It was wonderful to watch the joy on their faces and I think their humans had fun too! Well done Jo and Bruce👍
Thanks everyone for jumping in and doing all that was needed. Bring on the next one.

It is with great sadness Bev Thompson has let us know of the passing of our beautiful senior girl Beau. Beau is a member of Tassie Flying Paws Dog Club. Beau loved her Flyball and though she has been retired for a while she made a cameo at the States first Flyball competition where she earned her first Flyball points. She also loved to have a run at training, just to show those young ones age doesn't matter. Beau did travel to the mainland for a Nationals competition but as you can see in the second photo, she preferred lounging to racing at that stage. We will miss you Beau. Much love to Bev, Tony and Miss Millie. Xx
