It was the DF95 fleet’s turn to head down to Harts Mill with an empty Pat. The conditions were perfect. An 8-12kt easterly all day with conditions tending toward the top of A rig. The results show just how close the racing was. No one knew who was on the podium until the results were tallied. Peter Turcich was fast out of the blocks but struggled later in the day. Once Tony and Johan stopped taking each other out on the start line they managed to string together some good results to edge out Peter for the podium. Other honourable mentions go to John Storer, Chris Mathews, Chris Chatfield and Wayne Sheffield who managed some great results during the day. However, it was again Simon who took out the day with consistent placings at the front of the fleet. Thanks to Danny and Tim for sitting out the racing and doing an excellent race management job.

Due to low water levels at the Pat, the DF95 round tomorrow (14/6) will be moved to Harts Mill starting at 10:30am.

With the Pat again drained due to upcoming weather, we headed down to Harts Mill for this week’s M round. We started with B rigs and it looked like we might need to go to C. However, the wind faded just as Peter decided to change down from his A and we all ended up on A rigs. The day’s result was predictable with Simon and Brett in a close tussle for top spot closely followed by Paul. Brett eventually prevailed with a bit more consistency. Neil did well with the old Fuzzy Logic, at one point looking like he might pick up a win. Tim Arland was brave to go with a C early and it paid off for a win as a rain squall came down. It was a great day and well worth the effort to travel to the Port. We now go into a 2 month break for Ms & IOMs. There are 3 scheduled DF95 events to keep us going in the meantime.

The DF95 club round today was sailed in perfect A rig conditions. The rain held off just enough to allow 9 races in a short session before lunch. Simon, Neil & Danny were quick out of the blocks and fought it out for the podium. Tim Arland showed good form to be consistently at the front and grab a win. Tim Paynter with his new NJS sails also got a bullet. Thanks to Peter Turcich for taking on the RO duties.

The Marblehead Toad Cup was sailed in light moderate A rig conditions all day. Racing was expertly run by Phil Scapens assisted by Neil How and David Lane. This allowed 18 races to be sailed in what turned out to be a long and wet day. Although there were only 6 entries all boats were very competitive and everyone had a time at the front and back of the fleet. The w**d caused some issues but eventually the skill of Brett showed out with a narrow win over Simon. Danny looked good early on, but boat issues late in the day kept him off the top spot, but with a respectable podium spot nonetheless narrowly ahead of Paul.

Excitement was high going into the IOM round with forecast 30kt winds. However due to a combination of low water and a westerly influence, the day ended up being a frustrating swirling washing machine where it was impossible to know how your boat was performing. Simon seemed to make the most of the conditions early with a couple of wins. However as the day went on Paul managed more consistency in the close finishes, and ended up with the overall win on a countback. Neil was looking good early but switched to cleanup duty, rescuing a chair and other snags from the racecourse. With the conditions deteriorating, the racing was called early after 8 heats much to the relief of the sailors.

The DF95 round today looked like it could be a challenge with westerlies. However, the SW came in early and we ended up with great racing. The wins were shared around the fleet. Early on it looked like a hitout between Simon, Neil, Danny and Peter. However as the breeze settled Johan finished off the day brilliantly to take the last 3 races and second place overall. Thanks to everyone who made the day a great event.

It’s tight at the top after day one of the SA IOM States. Four points separate the top 4 boats. The day commenced in a volatile south-easterly breeze but ended up in a nice westerly by the close. JB in his woody showed great speed in the light air to grab the early advantage ahead of Gary McCarthy. Scotty and Alex were rusty from a lack of recent racing, but quickly got back into the groove. Neil seemed to find a way of picking the shifts and put together some strong results during the day. The winner of the day though was Brett who gave up his racing to fill in for an injured Gully. Thanks Brett! It looks like a great set up for tomorrow. Come down and cheer on your favourite sailor. Scotty already has his cheer squad lined up.
