BCC Finals hopes now rest with the Mighty Colts! They will take on Springwood in the Semi-Final on Ray Antcliff oval at Everdell Park on Saturday, starting at 12pm.
Premier XI
Although the Premier XI took out a great victory against second placed Mudgeeraba, their hopes for a maiden finals birth this season were dashed midweek when Palm Beach had one of their losses overturned and picked up enough points to keep them out of Beaudesert’s reach.
Batting first, Beaudesert were off to a disappointing start finding themselves at 2/13 in the 4th over. Joel Hughes joined opener Jaxon Hohl and tried to steady the innings, adding a further 28 to the total before Hughes was caught out on 23. Hohl contributed 27 before being dismissed with the score 5/71 after 22 overs. Luke Bostock and Sean Fitzsimmons built a handy 45 run partnership before Bostock was out for 15. James McClure then partnered with Fitzsimmons and the pair added 76 runs which ended with Fitzsimmons falling for 74 off 67 in the final over of the innings. McClure remained unbeaten on 25, scoring at a run a ball. Beaudesert’s innings closed at 9/192.
Setting a target of 193 for Mudgeeraba to claim victory, Beaudesert would need to restrict them to less than 4.8 runs per over. With Selwyn Park’s lights taking effect, BCC was off to a reasonable start claiming 3 wickets in the first 10 overs, with the visitors at 3/52. Over the next 25 overs Beaudesert was able to continually build scoreboard pressure by restricting the run scoring opportunities. At the 35 over mark Mudgeeraba were 6/153. The required run rate now at 8 per over for the final 5 overs. Hohl bowled a valuable 2 (0/7) while Andrew Steindl (0/23 off 8) drew on his experience bowling an eventful final over which found Mudgeeraba closing their run chase at 6/183. James McClure, once again the star performer with the ball taking 3/37 off 8. He was well assisted by Geoff Klease (2/41), Kye Condrick (1/28) and Andrew Staines (0/17 off 5).
The win keeps them in 5th spot which is just out of finals contention with one game remaining in the regular season.
2nd XI
The 2nd XI wrapped up their season with a loss against Brisbane Napoleons at Everdell Park on Saturday. They scored 8/110 off their allotted 40 overs and were unable to contain the visiting team who passed the target score in the 22nd over.
Stuart Groom top scored with 21 while Michael Fletcher 1/17 off 6 and Alex Darton 1/26 off 8 bowled well.
Colts
Beaudesert Colts played Beenleigh Pirates at Dauth Park in the final game of the regular season. Beenleigh won the toss and elected to bat first. Beenleigh got off to a great start with 2 batsman making half centuries. With great bowling and fielding the Colts were able to fight back and contain Beenleigh to 9/172 off 40 overs. Nixon Bridges was the standout taking 3/11 off 7 overs. Archie Foster was also great with the ball claiming 3/31 off 8. Elijah Markham (1/21) and Isaac Ralston (1/25) chipped in with a wicket each. Foster and Robert McClure took 2 catches, Declan O’Donnell 2 catches and a run out.
In reply, Beaudesert were 4/173 off their 40 overs. Declan O’Donnell 56, Aidan Overell 41 and Robert McClure 32 not out. It was a great win for the Colts who now play the semi-final this Saturday on Ray Antcliff Oval at 12 pm against Springwood Gold.
