The Socceroos take on the USA at 5am tomorrow morning. ⚽
Most parents would not realise this, but research consistently shows that children who swim regularly demonstrate stronger cross-sport indicators than non-swimmers. Endurance. Coordination. Recovery from physical setbacks. Body awareness in space.
A 2021 study in PLOS One compared young soccer players and competitive swimmers and found both displayed equally strong reaction times and physical conditioning. Different sports. Same foundation.
Swimming builds the engine. Whatever sport your child grows into will use it.

Under two weeks left in Term 2.
Your child is doing things in the water this week that they could not do in April. The kick that finally has rhythm. The float that holds longer. The breath taken without panic. These are not small. They are the foundation of every term that follows.
A fortnight to watch closely. 🌊

If you're undecided about swim lessons in winter, we encourage you to have a free trial before the end of term. Call us on 95604433 to organise a time that suits you

A 2024 study published in Frontiers in Public Health compared three groups of young children across different activity programmes.
The group in parent-accompanied swimming showed the greatest cognitive gains.
The researchers noted that it was not simply the physical activity that produced the result. The quality of engaged, undistracted parent attention during the session was a measurable variable in the outcome.
An hour in warm water with your full attention on one small person.
Turns out that it is hard to replicate anywhere else. 🤍

June in Melbourne.
Outside: Cold, grey, a drizzle that cannot commit to being proper rain.
Inside: 32 degrees, toasty, under cover with a five-year-old superstar who has just worked out he can hold his breath for five seconds and needs everyone to know immediately.
There are worse places to spend a Saturday morning. 🏊

A child who swims through winter does not just maintain their progress. According to the research, they tend to accelerate past peers who paused.
The reason has less to do with fitness and more to do with how the brain consolidates motor learning over repeated, consistent sessions.
We wrote the full piece, and it is on our website now.

Something that happens in the later weeks of almost every term.
A child does something in the water that they could not do in week 1. Not a big dramatic breakthrough. Something small. Holding the wall a little less. Trying the harder stroke without being asked. Cheering for the kid in the next lane.
The parents on the deck always notice, even before the child does.

Enjoy the long weekend. 👑
The pool is having a rest on Monday as well.
We will be back Tuesday, 32 degrees as always, with a fresh week of swimming lessons.
See you then. 🌊

Two kids who had never met before Term 2 started now race each other to the wall every single lesson.
Neither of them wins consistently. Neither of them cares.
Small group classes tend to do this. The pool turns out to be a pretty good place to make a friend. 🌊

Most parents assume the fastest learners in the pool are the naturally confident ones.
The research disagrees.
The strongest predictor of how quickly a child progresses in swimming is not personality, not age, and not natural ability. It is something far more ordinary, and far more within reach.
We have been writing about it. Article drops next week. Make sure you follow our socials to get notified📖

Winter is officially here.

Somebody forgot to tell these three.

Small classes, familiar faces, and kids who arrive on a cold Monday morning and leave not wanting to get out. That is winter swimming with us, and honestly, it is one of our favourite times of year.

If you have been thinking about starting, or coming back, now is a great time to start a new safe and healthy habit.
