This week’s weekly wrap is proudly brought to you by Daniel’s Donuts. Any similarity between Daniel’s delicious donuts and the number of games won by Dan or Dan last week who attended a pizza night instead is purely coincidental.
As our combatants took the courts a smoky haze lingered; courtesy of our neighbours on the balcony, who were relaxing before taking in a evening’s viewing of quality tennis. Also relaxing were the brothers Brar who missed the start time by a considerable margin, throwing the night’s court-sharing arrangements out of whack. The Tuesday Night Tennis commission has acted swiftly and there is now a new rule: if thou starts with Courts 1 & 2, thou must take the courts prior to 7:45.
Outback Stakos took on The Other Original Baileys in round 1, and with Simon Kemp out for the Baileys, on paper it was going to be a tough ask. And the paper provYeah Yeahcorrect, as Outback Stakos featuring Jono, big-hitting Zac, young Tony a wild man Jag cruised to 6-sets-to-love victory. After wasting no time signing up an obvious sponsor, Victoria Burton opened their season against Guzman y Gomez y Guz, or GYGYG for short. Victoria Burton started very well, with Nick Anderson hitting some fine balls, and getting out to an early two set lead. GYGYG fought back to split the second rubbers, then grab both third rubbers, but ended up falling short by the narrowest of margins. Captain Jack Sparrow held his own for GYGYG, while Gentleman John McDonagh got through the match with his shoulder unscathed. Last match for the round featured Advanced Hair Yeah Yeah against a Rob-less Rob’s Reject Shop Rejects, who were forced to make a late change. Advanced Hair Yeah Yeah toiled valiantly all night, but were overwhelmed by the fire power of the Rejects, going down 5 sets to one.
