Thanks to the efforts of Steve Kelleher, Neville Gregory & the late Ian Scholefield - these catch ups have become bigger and more frequently on a quarterly basis ๐ŸŽ‰

๐ŸŽ‰ BDCC Life Members Announcement ๐ŸŽ‰

Following Monday nightโ€™s AGM, Burwood District CC is honoured to announce that Tim Mortensen, Aaron Smith and Ash Warren have been inducted as the 27th, 28th & 29th Life Members of our club.

Tim, Aaron and Ash have all had monumental impacts at BDCC, both on-field and off-field, across many decades. They are all still actively involved in our Veterans team.

Aaron started in juniors in 1979, winning multiple premierships, working his way through to leading the senior 1st XI in A1 Grade. Equal parts talented and tough, Aaron was the standard setter at the club for so long in the top grades. Through his leadership, guidance and impact, he is one of the most respected and revered people in the clubโ€™s history. Aaron is the son of Life Member, Peter Smith (elected in 1989).

Tim commenced his Burra career in the 1985/86 season. Tim is a popular teammate to all. He is currently 4th on the all-time club runs scoring list. One of many career highlights for Tim was batting when the winning runs were scored in the historic 2006/07 A1 Premiership, along with winning the club batting award in the same season. Tim has also taken the most club catches for any non-keeper.

Ash started at the club in 1995/96 and has held many different positions of responsibility. These include; President, Treasurer, General Committee and team captain of various sides. Ash has been a vibrant figure around the club for many years.

The new Life Members will be formally presented at the Past Players Day in the upcoming season.

Please join us in congratulating these three outstanding club people.

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of a Club great in Gary Wilkinson passing away recently.

Gary sadly passed away last Thursday (28 May) after a long illness, and he is survived by his family in wife Judy, and children, Sharon, Darren and Shane โ€“ the Burwood District Cricket Club offers its deepest condolences to Garyโ€™s family, and his extended family and friends at this very difficult time.

Gary was a legend of our cricket club. He played during the 1970โ€™s and 80โ€™s including plenty of First XI cricket as part of his glittering career. He was a premiership player (McIntosh Shield, 1979 โ€“ 80), a team captain and a great competitor on the field.

Gary was an exceptional top order batsman who liked to score quickly using a full array of strokeplay, including devastating hook and pull shots to score multiple centuries with the Club. Importantly, Gary was also a fine wicketkeeper taking scores of catches and stumpings with smooth glovework throughout his career โ€“ Gary was one of the best allrounders to play at our Club, with over 4000 runs and 208 dismissals.

It is also important to note Garyโ€™s outstanding off field contribution to the Club where he coached junior teams, sat on the Committee in support of club functions and activities, and provided ongoing support and guidance to so many senior and junior players.

Gary was a truly admired member of the Burwood District Cricket Club. He was a loving family man, and an outstanding cricketer and clubman, who has left a tremendous legacy at our Club given everything he achieved using a committed and supportive approach to so many; Vale Gary Wilkinson โ€“ a true great of the Burwood District Cricket Club
