A rare photo of the Orkney hood, dated between AD250 - AD615. Why rare? Because on the web you can find mostly the photos of the museum replica, not the original one. The hood is probably the oldest, best-preserved sample of the late roman or migration period clothing in Britain. Originally the hood made of 3 pieces: the main fabric is 2/2 herringbone twill with a decoration, made with two different tablet woven binds with fringes sewn together with fabric. In fact, this finding is so interesting and unique that we will be happy to reproduce it one day.
