Having an holistic approach to health and not just focusing on your physical appearance will ensure you gain ultimate health and live your best life. Most people only focus on the physical side of things and think if they look good and are the correct weight then this must mean that they are healthy!
If you are aware of all of the 6 dimensions of health then you will be more likely to succeed at your goals as you won’t be focusing on just 1 dimension.
Lets take a look at the 6 dimensions of health in more detail:-
β€’ Social – having a sense of connection and belonging to people in your life
β€’ Physical – feeling energetic; your body performs and functions well
β€’ Emotional – being able to tune into, process and express your feelings and emotions
β€’ Mental – being able to think clearly, focus and remember important things
β€’ Environmental – living amidst surroundings that feel safe and supportive
β€’ Existential – having an underlying sense of gratitude, purpose and joy
When you have all of the 6 dimensions of health in check you will thrive in life! How do you stack up? Are you healthy? What can you improve on?

Did you know that there is a specific formula to calculate your Target Heart Rate (THR) for exercising to help you get optimum results?

Maximum Heart Rate (MHR)

Your maximum heart rate is calculated by subtracted your age from 220. So, for a 50 year old, their maximum heart rate is 220 minus 50, which means their maximum heart rate would be 170 beats per minute (bpm).

Why Calculate Maximum Heart Rate?

Calculating your max heart rate is necessary to monitor your heart rate during training sessions to ensure you are working hard enough or most importantly, not working too hard and keeping safe.

From your maximum heart rate you can understand what your heart rate zones are and work to a specific intensity to help reach your fitness goals.

Once you know what your maximum heart rate and your resting heart rate is, you can then monitor your heart rate while exercising and track what percentage of your max you hit during certain workouts and activities.

How To Use These Zones For Your Training:-

Your intensity and your zones will depend on your health, performance, goals, and workout preferences. Here are a few examples of how HR zones may be used for different goals:-

Fat Burning Zone = 50-75% of Maximum Heart Rate (MHR)

β€’ Primarily using fat as a fuel source

Aerobic Fitness Training Zone = 70-85% of MHR

β€’ Heart rate required to improve aerobic endurance
β€’ Primarily using carbohydrate as fuel source

Anaerobic Training Zone = 85-95% of MHR

β€’ Will improve your V02 max (a measure of the maximum amount of oxygen your body can utilise during exercise) and lactate threshold
β€’ Used for sport specific training
β€’ Primarily using carbohydrate as fuel source
