Round 12 FQPL Junior Results ⚫️⚪️
FQPL u12/13s
Our U12/13 FQPL squad were at home this morning, hosting BITS in another strong performance from the team.
The match began with both sides evenly matched, battling for control of possession and territory. Central eventually broke the deadlock through Levi Mortimer, who opened the scoring after a patient build-up. From there, Central began to take control of the midfield, moving the ball confidently, finding space, and maintaining composure in possession. Continuous pressure in the attacking third eventually led to a goal after a scramble in front of the BITS goal, with the ball unfortunately ending up in the back of the net for an own goal. The score stood at 2-0 in Central's favour at halftime.
BITS came out strongly in the second half and created a few promising opportunities, but Central's defensive line stood firm and dealt with everything that came their way. A quick transition through midfield and out wide created Central's third goal, with Lachlan Newton driving forward before delivering a low ball across the face of goal for Cooper Ferris to finish at the back post. Central continued to press high and apply pressure around the BITS goal, keeping the visitors pinned in their defensive third. The sustained attacking pressure eventually paid off when a loose ball spilled free following a goalkeeper fumble, with Cooper Ferris reacting quickest to pounce and score his second goal of the match, sealing a convincing 4-0 victory.
It was a fantastic team performance, with Central showing great composure in possession and controlling the tempo of the game. The squad's ability to dictate where and how the game was played was a real highlight throughout the match. Calmness, control, and composure have been major focuses at training, and it is great to see that hard work starting to shine through on game day. Ethan Volschenk earned this week’s Player of the Match for his pace and ball control out wide, along with his ability to recognise opportunities and drive back inside when defenders committed to the flanks. A fantastic performance!
FQPL u14/15s
It was a close game for our FQPL u14/15s who walked away with a 2-2 draw against BITS FC.
Zeeshan Moodley got the ball rolling with a screamer in the 2nd minute before he then went and scored his second in the 35th with another screamer. The boys started very strong and played with great intensity from the outset. It was a quality, physical game of football from both teams. Unfortunately, our side suffered a serious injury midway through the first half, which left us a player short in midfield and made things more challenging for the team. The boys would then go on to concede in the 37th minute and head into half-time 2-1 up. Despite these two setbacks, the boys continued to work hard throughout the second half before eventually being caught out at the back, proving costly as BITS would level the game 2-2 in the 72nd minute, and that would be how it ended.
The FQPL u14/15s now sit 2nd in the league and will face off against Frenchville FC away next weekend.
FQPL u16-18s
Our FQPL u16-18s travelled away Pilbeam Park to take on Nerimbera FC with several key players out. The boys started the game with only 2 subs, which would become 0 subs 30mins in. Cohen Beach and Kai Codrington dropped from our FQPL Men’s side to give the boys a hand with their short numbers. We started the game the more dominant side, taking the lead early with Cohen Beach skinning several defenders before burying it in the bottom right corner. Once the subs disappeared, it was a big shift required for the rest of the team in the Rockhampton heat. Nerimbera would strike soon after and then get their 2nd before half-time. Half-time saw the boys change formation and come out red hot, nearly scoring off the restart; against the run of play, Nerimbera would score a 3rd. The boys had chances throughout including a clear-cut opportunity to score goals and get back into the game but ultimately failed at the last hurdle. With three key players coming back from injury next week and others back in the squad, the boys will be keen to move on from the result when they take on Clinton FC next week.
Thank you to the Nerimbera Manager who refereed the game in a very honest, fair and, respectable manner without any assistant referees due to a referee shortage in Rockhampton.
