Congratulations to Sunbury United Cricket Club champion Upul Fernando who as a youthful 50+ years of age has shown his class to take home the Kevin Sullivan Medal tonight. Rumours of retirement surely cannot be true! Unfortunately Upul is in the air on his way to Sri Lanka tonight - so here’s a nice surprise for when you land! Congratulations 🥂! Also named Captain of the GDCA Team of the Year. Well done Upi.

Congratulations to Gisborne Cricket Club champion Brianna Woodburn on taking home ALL the trophies - quite literally. Brianna won the batting, the bowling, the all-rounder and not surprisingly - also goes home with her second and back-to-back Women’s MVP award! Snuck into Team of the Year as Captain too. What a season!

Congratulations to Woodend Cricket Club on holding on to win the McIntyre Cup. Excellent season and rewarded for finishing top of the ladder. Commiserations to Gisborne Cricket Club who were going for 3-in-a-row - a tremendous show of consistency. Big thanks to umpires Chris Bretag, Ron Smethurst and Shiraz Shamsudeen as well. Congratulations to Ollie Price on winning the Gary Sanders medal for Player of the Match! Finally, thank you to hosts Wallan District Cricket Club on a super effort all weekend.

The twists and turns of a Grand Final! What a first day. After losing time to rain, we now have a thrilling day 2 ahead tomorrow! Gisborne finish at stumps 6/136 off 49 overs - and will take to the crease again tomorrow needing to set Woodend enough of a target and then collect 10 wickets. From Woodend’s point of view, they need to either make that target or not lose all 10 poles. It’s going to be a cracker! Big congratulations to the team from Wallan District Cricket Club for their preparation and work all day. Considering the weather, what a treat it was to play on a dry deck and a superb surface. Bring on day 2!
