Your freezer can be part of your healthy-eating strategy. đŸ„Š

I think sometimes we make healthy eating much harder than it needs to be.

We imagine we need a fridge full of fresh produce, Sunday meal prep, perfectly planned dinners and enough time to cook everything from scratch.

And then Tuesday happens.

The kids have sport. Work runs late. Someone needs picking up. You realise you forgot to take the chicken out of the freezer and suddenly dinner becomes toast, takeaway or whatever everyone else has left on their plate. 😅

This is where I think your freezer can become one of your best friends.

Frozen vegetables are still a really useful option. Frozen berries make an easy addition to yoghurt or smoothies. Keeping some portions of protein, wholegrain bread or other easy staples on hand means you have something to build a meal around when life gets chaotic.

And honestly, I would much rather see a mum eat a simple, balanced freezer meal than skip dinner because she thinks it doesn't count as "healthy".

Healthy eating doesn't have to look impressive.

Sometimes it's frozen veggies thrown into a stir fry.

Sometimes it's eggs on toast with some fruit.

Sometimes it's leftovers.

Sometimes it's the meal you managed to put together at 7.30pm while someone is asking you where their school shoes are. 😂

The goal isn't to eat perfectly.

It's to make the healthier choice easier to make when life gets busy.

Have a look in your freezer this week and ask yourself:

“What could I keep in here that would make feeding myself properly a little easier?”

That small bit of preparation can make a surprisingly big difference.

If you're in the Macedon Ranges and you'd like some support with building realistic exercise and healthy habits around family life, I offer 1-on-1 and small-group sessions and would be happy to have a chat.

If you're not local, that's okay too. Follow along for practical tips around women's health, strength, nutrition and looking after yourself without making life more complicated. đŸ€

And honestly, that sentence tells me a lot.

Because usually, when a woman says this, she isn't asking for another diet.

She's tired of spending Monday feeling motivated, eating as little as possible, being “good” all week
and then reaching the weekend absolutely starving.

She's tired of thinking about food all day.

Tired of feeling guilty when she eats something she enjoys.

And tired of believing that losing weight means constantly being hungry.

What if the answer isn't learning how to eat less?

What if it's learning how to build a healthier way of eating that you can actually live with?

A balanced approach might mean looking at the meals you're having, whether you're getting enough protein and fibre, how much you're moving, how you're training, how you're sleeping and what your stress levels look like.

And if you're in your 30s or 40s, it's also worth understanding that your body and circumstances can change. Perimenopause, for example, can bring changes that affect body composition, sleep and overall wellbeing.

That doesn't mean you need to give up on your goals.

It means the strategy may need to change.

And perhaps the most important question isn't:

“How quickly can I lose weight?”

It's:

“How can I become healthier without making food and exercise consume my life?”

Because you deserve an approach that helps you feel stronger, healthier and more capable — not one that leaves you constantly hungry.

If you're in the Macedon Ranges and you'd like some support, join my 1-on-1 and small-group training designed around where you're at now.

If you're not local, that's okay too. Follow along for practical tips, education and realistic strategies to help you take better care of yourself. đŸ€

Save this if you've ever said, “I just want to lose weight without starving myself.”

It’s easy to think the answer is simply to eat less.

Breakfast gets skipped because the morning is chaos.

Lunch becomes whatever is quickest.

Then 3pm rolls around and suddenly you’re standing in the pantry looking for something sweet because you’re absolutely starving.

Dinner comes around and you tell yourself you’ll “be good” tomorrow.

So Monday comes
and you decide you’re going to cut out carbs, eat smaller portions and finally get serious.

But what if eating less isn't actually the place to start?

Have a look at your plate.

Where is the protein?

Where are the vegetables or fruit?

Where is the fibre?

Where are the foods that are actually going to keep you satisfied and give your body the nutrients it needs?

Because there is a big difference between eating less and eating well.

And for busy mums, this matters.

Your body needs protein to support muscle and recovery. Fibre-rich foods such as vegetables, fruit, legumes and wholegrains are an important part of a healthy diet. And eating a variety of foods from the five food groups helps you get the range of nutrients your body needs.

This isn't about creating another list of foods you're “allowed” and “not allowed” to eat.

It's about stepping away from the cycle of:
restrict → get hungry → crave → overeat → feel guilty → restrict again.

Maybe instead of asking:
“How little can I eat to lose weight?”

we start asking:
“How can I build a meal that actually supports me?”

Because your goal shouldn't just be weighing less.

It should be having the energy to get through your day, feeling stronger, being properly nourished and building habits you can still live with six months from now.

And if you've spent years putting everyone else's meals together while yours gets whatever is left over
maybe it's time to put yourself on the plate too. đŸ€

Follow along — I'll keep sharing practical information to help you understand your health and make better choices without making life more complicated.

Because somewhere between school drop-offs, work, lunches, dinner, appointments, washing, family commitments and constantly thinking about what everyone else needs

your own needs can become very easy to ignore.

Then one day you realise you don't feel as strong as you used to.

Your clothes feel different.

Your energy isn't what it was.

Exercise feels harder.

Your sleep isn't great.

Your confidence has taken a hit.

And you start thinking, “Maybe this is just what happens when you get older.”

But what if it doesn't have to be?

What if feeling like yourself again isn't about trying to get your old body back?

What if it's about building a stronger version of the woman you are now?

Strength training.
Regular movement.
Eating enough of the right foods.
Better recovery.
Looking after your mental health.
And, perhaps most importantly, finally giving your own health some of the attention you've spent giving everyone else.

You don't need to change everything next Monday.

You just need to stop convincing yourself that feeling this way is something you have to accept.

If you're in the Macedon Ranges and you're ready to start feeling stronger, more capable and more like yourself, I have supportive 1-on-1 and small-group sessions.

And if you're not local, stay here. Follow along for practical women's health, strength and wellbeing information to support you wherever you are. đŸ€

Maybe you don't need to find the old you.
Maybe it's time to take care of the woman you've become.

Dinner needs organising.
School bags need checking.
Someone needs to be somewhere at 8am.
There’s washing in the machine.
You need to remember to book that appointment.
Work is waiting for you tomorrow.

And somewhere in between all of that, there’s this little voice saying:

“I really need to start looking after myself.”

But then something else needs doing.

So your health gets pushed to tomorrow.

Then next week.

Then when things settle down.

Except
when do things actually settle down?

Constantly managing competing demands can leave you feeling overwhelmed and mentally drained. And prolonged stress can affect your sleep, mood, concentration, appetite and overall wellbeing.

This is where I think we sometimes get health backwards.

You don't necessarily need to find another hour in your already packed day.

You need to start asking:

“What can I realistically do for myself within the life I actually have?”

Maybe it's strength training twice a week.

Maybe it's getting outside for a walk.

Maybe it's eating a proper lunch instead of finishing the kids' leftovers.

Maybe it's finally making that appointment you've been putting off.

Small decisions, repeated consistently, can start changing how you feel and what you're capable of.

And here's the uncomfortable part...

Your family will always need something from you.

So waiting until everyone needs you less might mean waiting a very long time.

If you're in the Macedon Ranges and you're ready to stop putting your health at the bottom of the list, I offer supportive 1-on-1 and small-group training for women at different stages of life.

If you're not local, follow along. I'll keep sharing practical tips and information to help you feel more supported in looking after yourself. đŸ€

You don't need to add “become a completely different person” to your to-do list.

You just need to start making yourself part of it.

I know a lot of women who are great at one type of exercise.

They lift weights a couple of times a week but don't really do much else.

Or they walk regularly but haven't done anything that really challenges their strength.

Or they used to run, do classes or play sport, but life, kids, work and everything in between slowly pushed exercise further down the list.

The thing is, your body doesn't need you to pick one type of exercise and stick to it forever.

Your muscles need resistance.

Your heart and lungs need cardiovascular exercise.

Your joints and body benefit from regular movement.

And your mind benefits from getting out, moving and doing something for yourself.

This doesn't mean you suddenly need to start running 10km or spend hours at the gym.

A brisk walk.
A bike ride.
Swimming.
A short cardio session.
Walking up some hills.
Playing outside with the kids.

It all adds up.

And this is one reason I like a combination of strength training and cardiovascular exercise for women.

Strength helps you build a body that is capable and strong.

Cardio helps support your heart and lungs and your ability to keep doing the things you enjoy.

You don't have to choose between the two.

You also don't have to be incredibly fit before you start.

The goal isn't to train like an athlete.

The goal is to build a level of fitness that supports your life.

If you're in the Macedon Ranges and you're not sure what your body actually needs right now, I offer 1-on-1 and small-group sessions where we can work from where you're at and build from there.

And if you're not local, follow along. I'll keep sharing practical tips to help you make sense of exercise, strength and women's health without the all-or-nothing approach. đŸ€

There’s a point where you can be doing the same workouts you’ve always done and suddenly think

Why does this feel so much harder than it used to?

Maybe you’re not recovering as quickly.
Maybe the weights you used to lift comfortably now leave you feeling like you’ve been hit by a truck.
Maybe your sleep has changed, your energy is unpredictable, your body composition is shifting and your motivation seems to come and go.

And the temptation is to think, “I just need to work harder.”

But perimenopause isn’t the time to keep treating your body like it’s 25.

Your body is going through hormonal changes, and that can affect things like muscle, bone health, recovery, sleep, mood and where you tend to store body fat.

That doesn’t mean you need to stop exercising.

It means you may need to become more intentional about how you exercise.

Strength training is particularly valuable during this stage because maintaining and building muscle becomes increasingly important. But that doesn’t mean lifting as heavy as possible every session or pushing yourself until you’re exhausted.

It means learning how to train your body as it is now.

Progressive strength work.
Enough recovery.
Good nutrition.
Adequate protein.
And a training approach that fits your actual life.

You don't need to chase the workouts you did in your 20s.

You need to build the strongest, healthiest version of the woman you are today.

And honestly, that can be a much better goal. đŸ€

If you're in the Macedon Ranges and you're ready to learn how to train for this stage of life, I offer supportive 1:1 and small-group sessions where we can work with your starting point rather than expecting you to fit into someone else's program.

If you're not local, follow along. I share practical information around women's health, strength, exercise, nutrition and navigating the changes that come with this stage of life.

You don't need to go backwards to feel strong again. You just need to learn what your body needs now.

04/09/2026

Think about something as ordinary as walking up a flight of stairs.

Maybe you get to the top and you're breathing harder than you'd like.

Maybe you automatically take the lift when one is available.

Maybe you carry the shopping bags up one at a time because doing both at once feels like hard work.

Or maybe you can do all of those things easily now, but you've noticed they aren't quite as effortless as they used to be.

These little everyday things are actually clues about your functional fitness.

Fitness isn't just about how fast you can run, how much weight you can lose or what you look like in the mirror.

It's also about whether your body has the strength, balance, mobility and cardiovascular fitness to handle ordinary life.

Can you get down on the floor and back up again?

Can you carry the groceries from the car?

Can you walk up a hill without needing to stop?

Can you lift your child?

Can you move furniture around without worrying that you'll hurt yourself?

These things matter.

And the good news is that you don't have to wait until everyday activities become difficult before doing something about it.

Strength and fitness are trainable.

This is one of the reasons I love working with women who aren't necessarily looking to become athletes. They simply want to feel capable in their own bodies again.

Because the goal isn't to be the fittest person in the gym.

It's to be able to live your life without your body constantly limiting what you can do.

If you're in the Macedon Ranges and you'd like some guidance building your strength, fitness and confidence, I offer supportive 1-on-1 and small-group sessions where we can start from wherever you're currently at.

And if you're not local, that's okay too. Follow along for practical tips around strength, women's health, exercise and looking after yourself through the different stages of life. đŸ€

Your health isn't just about what your body looks like. It's about what your body allows you to do.
