What could be better than a derby to kick off the winter season! 🤩

You wouldn’t guess it from the energy, teamwork and sportsmanship on display - but both teams only met their teammates for the first time moments before stepping onto the court!

FEEL GOOD STORY 🏀

Congratulations to Matilda from our U14 Grannies team who represented WA at the 3x3 Hustle National Tournament in Bendigo, Victoria last weekend! 🤩

Nine teams from the west qualified to take on the best 3x3 players in the country!

Matilda and her ‘Hills Sparks’ teammates (wearing pale pink in the group photo), who play in the Hills Raiders domestic competition and for Hills Raiders WABL teams, participated in the U15 Girls grade. Whilst they didn’t bring home the championship title, the experience offered opportunities for development, exposure and insight into the elite 3x3 pathway.

WINTER PLAYERS WANTED 🏀🌧️

Our teams are almost finalised but we need a couple of extra players to complete some age groups. All levels of experience are welcome 🙂

U10 Mixed - SATURDAY COMP
Saturday mornings at MCC primary campus
Boys or girls from Year 1/2/3 or beginner Year 4
Must not turn 10 in 2026
2 players needed

U12 Boys Div 2 - TUESDAY
Tuesday evenings at Mundaring Arena & MCC primary campus
Year 4/5 or beginner Year 6
Must not turn 12 in 2026
1-2 players needed

The winter comp is usually a little more casual, and most teams won't train as we have so many players with other winter commitments and no indoor court space. This will depend on the coach, however.

FEEL GOOD STORY #3 🏀

Congratulations to Joel ( #10) from our Gidge Wildcats team whose Binar Maali Basketball Club team has not only qualified for Division 1 for the 2026 WABL season but has also secured a spot at the 2026 Under 14 Club Championships. Joel played a pivotal role in the team’s success, scoring important buckets in a must-win game.

This national tournament will see the best 48 WABL-level Club teams from around Australia compete on the big stage at Willetton Basketball Stadium later this year (24 teams per gender).

A historic moment for Binar.

Not only have our boys officially qualified for Division 1 in the 2026 TCD WABL Season…
they’ve now earned their place at the 2026 Under 14 Club Championships — one of the biggest stages in junior basketball, bringing together the top clubs from across the country to compete at the highest level.

📅 September 27 – October 2, 2026

In our very first year competing in WABL, our Under 14s have achieved something truly special.

Back in November, our group showed incredible resilience, belief, and pride to finish Top 4 at the State Championships. Today, they took it even further — winning through as the top team in our pool at the national qualifying tournament. This result places Binar as one of only four clubs in Western Australia to qualify for this prestigious national tournament.

What makes this even more significant is who we are. Binar is the first Aboriginal-led WABL club, and this team proudly reflects that — with 6 of our 10 players identifying as Aboriginal, alongside both our head coach and assistant coach.

This is a powerful moment for Aboriginal basketball. A moment of representation, opportunity, and belief.

It is also a significant moment for the City of Swan region — for all the young people coming through to see what’s possible and to understand that these pathways are real and within reach.

Our boys have put in the work and have absolutely earned the opportunity to test themselves against the best in the country.

This achievement is bigger than basketball. It represents the vision, culture, and commitment that Binar has been building — creating pathways, opportunities, and belief for our young people. To see that come to life in our very first year at this level is something our entire community can be proud of.

This is more than qualification… this is a statement.

FEEL GOOD STORY #2 🏀

Congratulations to honorary club members Ciara and Lisa who have been selected for the Basketball WA Emerging Female Referee Development Program! This initiative is designed to support the development of female referees through mentoring, targeted learning and exposure to high-performance and professional environments in partnership with the Perth Lynx.

Ciara played a number of seasons for our club with the Gidge Garnets and has helped to coach her brother’s team at times as well. Lisa has provided coaching assistance to our U12 Boys Gidge Giants team this season. And both young ladies have refereed at our club’s social 3x3 tournaments!

Well done, girls! We wish you both the very best for your future refereeing careers! ❤️
