A bit of general information for those that are keen….
SUP Surfing
As most will already know, this event is a longboard SUP competition so board type is a key requirement for all competitors. Keeping with the current Surfing Australia longboard SUP requirements, boards must be 9’ or longer and have a full rounded nose profile. The following board types are examples that comply with the competition requirements:
* Smik - Hipster Longboard, Style Lord, Bonza Longboard
* Infinity - New Deal
* Kalama E3
* Sunova - Speed, Shorty, Revolution, Steeze, Style
* Jimmy Lewis - Black and Blue, Striker, Destroyer
* Starboard - Pro Longboard (maybe the new ‘Tall Twin’ will make an appearance?)
(Essentially…. If it is designed to be ridden on the nose… it’s in!)
So then the judging style for the Comp will also be weighted towards the longboard style, with style, flow and movement up and down the length of the board being important criteria for scoring well. In keeping with the modern longboard criteria though, powerful, radical manoeuvres will also score well and combining both styles will see you rewarded highly.
BOP Series
Once again, we will also be running a Battle of the Paddle (BOP) best of 3 race series over the course of the competition. This is (normally) a sprint race for the 14’ race boards around a circuit in the surf zone…. Potential carnage factor is off the charts and if you aren’t competing… it is an epic spectator sport. If you are keen to have a go, but don’t have a 14’ board, reach out to the crew (there are a few spares around) or feel free to have a go on another board of your choice…. The more the merrier!!
Longest Noseride Expression Session
Once again, the finals day will also see the frothingest frothers getting up close and personal with the front end of the sled, in an effort to be crowned the Noseride King (or Queen) for 2026! A nod to the traditional days of longboard styling… and a ton of fun and laughs to boot!!!
The event is being held at the northern end of Seven Mile Beach (Gerroa), which is a consistent sand bottomed beach break that picks up a wide range of swell direction from NE through to deep South swell. The beach works well on all tides, with numerous consistent peaks to choose from. The best winds are from the W to NW, but the swell tends to hold up in any wind as long as it is not too strong. If we do get hit with strong S to SE winds, our back up location is the magical Werri beach about a 5min drive to the North. Werri is an absolute swell magnet location and is offshore with winds from the NW through to S and is somewhat protected from SE winds as well.
If you have not sorted accomodation yet…. The Seven Mile Beach Holiday Park is the prime local spot just off the beach. It is likely our comp location will be no more than 700m from the park entrance (around 350m down the beach). Other accomodation close by includes the Discovery parks Gerroa on the other side of the river, or there are numerous Air BnBs close by if you want to glam it up. If we fill up Gerroa, there is the Werri Beach Holiday Park in Gerringong…. About a 5min drive north.
If you have any other questions…. Please get in touch!! The ISUP Crew are frothing to get this event back into the water after our amazing first run last year and want to welcome everyone to one of the best SUP spots on the South Coast!
Spots are limited, so don’t muck around when Regos go live at 5pm, Sun 9 Aug! Can’t wait to catch you at the beach!! 🤙🤙🤙
