Phillip Grant's Post Rejected by NSWMSA

Phil sent the following post to the NSWMSA FB page only to have it rejected.

If I do not affiliate with Squash Australia will I be banned from masters and masters tournaments?

The answer came back I could play tournaments as a non member paying a little more but that means I would not be a registered as a master after 40 years as a member.

It appears that when our annual NSWMSA fees are due on 30th June 2026, we will all be asked to provide our Squash Australia Numbers.

Currently, Phil could be up for Squash Australia Membership on top of his normal annual NSWMSA fees.

NSWMSA is negotiating for a nominal joining fee if this is what has to happen.

Phil and I are not too sure about this situation.

There are a lot of NSW Masters Members who don't want to be on another database, and possibly paying a lot more for their NSWMSA membership which was never voted on at the last AGM.

2025 Winter Monday In -House Competition
The next Monday Night In-House Comp starts on Mon 28th July 2025 at 6.00pm

Setup and Fees
It starts on Monday 28th July 2025 and is over 16 rounds.
The cost is $160 per person to cover the $10 hourly court fees per person each week.

Game Structure
It's 30-minute matches, with 3-4 person teams playing at either North Nowra or Gerringong each Monday night from 6pm.
This way, it's over in 2 hours i.e. by 8pm

Match Structure
The following is how the 30-minute match is played:
4-minute warmup
8-minute game
1-minute break
8-minute game
1-minute break
8-minute game

You'll need to use a timer on your phone with a loud alarm so you don't miss the intervals. Your scorer/umpire can keep a phone nearby.

Scoring System
Equal scores are allowed when the timer goes off.

The 3rd game counts for 2 games
This means you can lose the first 2 games, and by winning the 3rd it brings the game score to 2-2. The overall winner is then decided on overall points.
Equal Games and Points Scenario
Should this happen, the player who won the first 2 games is awarded an extra point making them the overall winner.

Subs
If you are away for the week, you can call one of the subs either from the Bye Team or the list of subs (see Teams and Draw). You have to pay the person you are subbing for $10 to cover court hire.
If you are just not able to play on Monday, but willing to play on another night during the week, arrange a suitable centre and time with your opponent. You will have to pay a court booking fee to do this.

Fees must be paid in full at the start of the comp.

2025 Gerringong Masters Tournament 25-27th July
It's on again!
Entrants play in a 3 x 8 minute format with the 3rd game counting for 2 games. In other words, you can lose the fist 2 games and still be victorious by winning the 3rd well and be the overall winner on points.

Everyone plays a total of 3 matches over the weekend.

The Friday Night meet is at Mick Cronin's Hotel and the Sat. Dinner is at the Gerroa Fisherman's Club.

Had a great Pizza and Beer Night at Kiama Downs SLSC last night with guest performer, Aaron Oswald (our very own squashie), providing the entertainment. Had to share a table with Peter Georgee though 😎

2025 Shoalhaven In-House Squash Competition Starts Monday 3rd Feb. 2025
Join us in the upcoming 2025 In-House Squash Competition between Gerringong and North Nowra Squash Clubs. It’s a fantastic way to meet new squash players, and get into the competitive spirit. All ages and standards are welcome to join.

Cost
Cost is $160 per competition (16 rounds) payable to either Gerringong Squash Club (Mark Allison) or North Nowra Squash Club (Adrian Riepsamen). The fees cover Monday night court hire and prizes.

On Mondays, both North Nowra and Gerringong will have 2 courts blocked off between 6pm to 8pm for matches to be played (4 lots of 30-minute timed matches).

Can’t Play Monday Night?
If you can’t play Monday Night, and need to play on a different night, you will have to call your opponent to arrange a suitable time and venue, and book and pay for court hire.
Otherwise, call a sub and see of they can fill in for you- they will need to pay you $10 for their match.

Team Structure
There will be 4-person teams playing against each other.
Each team will have its strongest player at Line 1, and the not so strong players lower down the playing order.

Game Structure and Scoring
Each match is based on 3 timed games as follows (use a timer on your mobile phone)
4 minute warmup
8 minute game
1 minute rest
8 minute game
1 minute rest
8 minute game

The 3rd game counts as 2 games, so you can be 0-2 down and still win the match if you have more points overall. If games and points are equal, the person who won the first 2 games is given an extra point to be made the winner.

The winning team will be decided by overall games won (if even, then on total points)

Umpiring and Scoring
The other players score and make decisions about “lets” etc. and keep track of the time.

Scoresheets will be available at both centres to fill in after each game. Take a photo of the scoresheet and sent it via text to Mark Allison on 0418 233 985

Like to be a Sub?
If you can’t commit to every week, but like the idea of a few more games of squash, put yourself down as a sub so players can call you if they are unable to make their match.
You need to pay them $10 each time you fill in.
