Geraldton Roller Derby is a not-for-profit league and the only (and greatest!) roller derby team in Western Australia's Mid West. Roller derby is a full contact sport played by two teams of five skaters moving anti-clockwise around an oval track. Game play consists of a series

of short match-ups ("jams") in which both teams designate 1 scoring player each (the "jammers") who scores points by lapping the other 4 members of the opposing team (the "blockers"). The teams attempt to assist their own jammer while hindering the opposing jammer — in effect playing both offense and defense simultaneously. Roller derby is played by more than 1,200 amateur leagues on every inhabited continent. While the sport has its origins in the banked-track roller skating marathons of the 1930s, Leo Seltzer and Damon Runyon are credited with the basic evolution of the sport to its initial competitive form. Professional roller derby quickly became popular; in 1940 more than 5 million spectators watched bouts in 50 US cities. Modern roller derby is an international sport dominated by all-female amateur teams, in addition to a growing number of male, co-ed, and junior roller derby teams, and is (as a roller sport) under consideration for the 2020 Olympics. ethic which uniquely combines athleticism and alternative elements and third-wave feminist aesthetics.

Our Skate Invaders team had so much fun at the Rainmakers Event at Nabawa over the weekend. Great way to burn off some energy with a neat bunch of people. We won a few goodies too, woohoo! 😊

Happenings for this week:
Pinky traveled to Perth to play for Space Invaders in the Perth Mixed Derby 1st home game of the season and came away with a hard fought win, 149 to 145, that’s nail biting stuff!
Jazz, Conquer, Boo, Sonic, Doza and Shain had a super fast foreshore skate on a magical day. So lucky to live where we do.

Yesterday was our final roller disco for this school holidays and it was a big one! It was loads of fun and we’d like to give a big thanks to everyone that came or helped out in anyway. We hope to do more in the future and maybe have mums and dads skating too! 🛼🎶🪩💕

The School Holidays Roller Disco is on!

Limited skates provided so please bring your own if you have them, and protective gear must be worn!

In a sea of bicycles (many of them electric) the intrepid Pyscho and Manic represented the Sin City Rollers at Woman on Wheels 2026.
These two legends roller skated from Stow Gardens on the town foreshore to Swan Drive Sunset Beach car park and then back to town against the southerly. So proud of you both Susan Phillips and Kianah Sharpe 🤩🛼👯‍♀️💕

For our latest southern jaunt, Pinky, Boo, Conquer and Manic travelled to Margaret River to compete in Skate Fest 2026 5v5 events. We were joined by the awesome Rainbow Smite from the Dread Pirate Rollers to make up our 5. Thanks Rain, we loved playing with you! Pinky got to play in the final for Margs as they were down a player and they won too, yay, go Pinky!
It was an action packed weekend and we got to catch up with all our wider state roller derby people.
Big thanks to Margaret River Roller Derby for organising the event, you guys rock 👏👯‍♀️❤️
We are so super proud of our Manic Panic as not only was it her first time competing, she jammed like a legend and earned herself an MVP award!!! How good is that! 🤩🏆🛼💕
Manic is also our new freshie coach so any newcomers get to benefit from her skating skills which are really quite amazing. She’s a natural teacher and an asset for our club. So proud!!! 😻
Ps we will be calling for new freshies soon as our last intake was small and we’d like a few more. Keep an eye out and let us know if you’re even a bit interested! You never know, you may love it too 😉
