One Club: Two Teams. The Buccs expansion is providing new pathways for our athletes 🏀

A NEW ERA FOR WOMEN’S BASKETBALL IN GERALDTON BEGINS 🏀💙

The Geraldton Buccaneers are proud to announce Capricorn Metals Ltd as the Principal Foundation and Naming Rights Partner of our Women’s NBL1 West team, with MACA joining the program as a Foundation Partner.

Through significant three-year partnerships, Capricorn Metals and MACA will provide important backing for the Women’s program as we prepare to return to the NBL1 West competition in 2027.

This is about much more than putting a name on a team.

Together, we have an opportunity to create a sustainable elite pathway for female basketballers in regional WA, inspire the next generation of players, strengthen regional communities and raise awareness of employment and career opportunities here in the Mid West.

With Capricorn Metals progressing the Mt Gibson Gold Project and MACA playing a key role in its development, there is strong alignment between our organisations and a shared commitment to investing in the future of our region.

This is a major milestone in our journey towards becoming a two-team NBL1 West club – and an exciting step forward for women’s basketball in Geraldton.

A huge thank you to Capricorn Metals and MACA for believing in the vision and backing the future of the program.

Introducing a new member of the GABA team - our Child Protection Officer Shelby Fisher.

Shelby will be responsible for policies, their implementation and the handling of any complaints or issues relating to child safety.

Shelby will work very closely with the GABA and our clubs to ensure everyone understands our obligations, specifically in relation to Working with Children Checks, and to ensure any issues that may ever arise will be dealt with swiftly and professionally though the correct channels.

In coming weeks Shelby will be communicating with clubs about educational materials and training.

🏀 2027 BASKETBALL WA COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS 🏀

Please save the date for the upcoming 2027 Basketball WA Country Championships, to be held at Bendat Basketball Centre in Perth.

The championships are a major event on the country basketball calendar, bringing together associations from across Western Australia for a fantastic celebration of regional basketball.

🏀 MIDWEST ACADEMY – OPEN TRIALS 🏀

Ready to take your basketball to the next level?

Midwest Academy is a premier junior basketball development program run by GABA and designed for aspiring athletes who want to improve their skills, develop their basketball IQ and gain a deeper understanding of the game in a high-performance environment.

Whether you're an existing Academy athlete or looking to take the next step in your basketball journey, we invite you to attend our Open Trial Sessions.

📅 Saturday 8th and 22nd August
📍 Active West Stadium – Courts 4–7

Session Times
🏀 Males (Born 2010–2016): 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
🏀 Females (Born 2010–2016): 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Following these two trial sessions, selected athletes will be invited to join our 6-week intensive basketball development program, commencing the week of 24th August. This program is designed to accelerate skill development, enhance game understanding and prepare athletes to perform at the next level.
