Hey everyone. We are so happy to say Elevate Dance Eisteddfod have been in touch with us and have kindly offered to support the Geraldton community by bringing their dance competition to Geraldton to ensure everyone has an opportunity to perform and shine on stage. They are currently seeking expressions of interest from all studios / dancers. The proposal is to run a weekend event either on 26-28 May or 9-11 June.

They would love to get an idea of interest before confirming the event as they need to working quickly to fit this into their existing schedule for 2023!

Elevate have asked if people can please submit their potential entries if interested using the following links:

The venue would be Geraldton Grammar School.

You can contact Elevate on the following email if you have any queries at their email [email protected].

We are so happy that you guys will have a chance to display the amazing talent you have in Geraldton. As we say every year the kids in Perth are spoiled for choice but not everyone has the opportunity to get to Perth for those comps so to have one on your local town allows everyone the chance to step out on stage.

We hope this can get off the ground for you all and just know that we (Kate, Trina, Charlize and Emily) will be cheering you on from afar xx

It is with a heavy heart that Trina & I have decided not to run our competition this year.

There are many reasons but the biggest ones are that Trina will be in her final semester of her nursing qualification. The second one is that my CRPS pain condition has been getting steadily worse as it now affects my legs and on most days I am unable to function normally. I can not guarantee that I would be able to make it through the weekend, not to mention the hours & hours of preparation.

Please know This decision has not been made lightly, we get so much enjoyment in bringing this competition to Geraldton but we would rather cancel than provide a substandard event.

If we find that my health improves and Trina is available to devote more time then we hope we can reinstate 2024 as a bigger and better event.

We are so sorry to disappoint those of you who love performing, as our fundamental purpose has always been to bring the opportunity for the kids who don’t have the opportunities to compete in perth and we love seeing the confidence grow in all competitors. We do hope that if this has inspired kids to dance then perhaps you may be able to take your kids on a little dance weekend in Perth. We want to thank you all so much for supporting us over the past few years and we wish you all nothing but the very best for your 2023 dance year.

Hey everyone.

Wow. What a competition… we have just now had a chance to catch our breath after an awesome few days of incredible talent and big energy coming from each and every dancer. We are filled with so much pride when we reflect on just how far you guys have come. We just love giving you all the opportunity to dance from beginners to the seasoned campaigners.

We would like to thank each and every person who contributed over the weekend.

To the dance studios who have worked tirelessly to prepare their students in the most challenging of circumstances. Unfortunately COVID has impacted the ability to rehearse a full team. And I know some of you have been extremely ill yourselves, so the very fact you have even fielded teams is quite remarkable.

To the parents and families who make so many usacrifices so your children can do what they love

To the lovely Erin Barry, this was a very long few days, and we have such admiration for you. You face every single act that entered the stage your all. We know it’s exhausting sitting for hours on end but your dedication meant you did not loose focus at all. I am sure the dancers and studios appreciated the depth of knowledge you were able to apply.

We would like to thank
The staff at Queens Park Theatre who year after year go above and beyond to help make Australian Dance Extravaganza a huge success, we do put the guys under the pump but they always pull through and help us deliver a mostly seamless event.

We are extremely hopeful that we can continue to field our competition at Queens Park Theatre as the venue is perfect for our event, we just need to work through a few bumps in the road with them so it remains financially viable to run the competition at this gorgeous venue. We try really hard to keep the entry fees and session of tickets reasonably priced as possible and have appreciated the generosity of Queens Park Theatre to date.

We would also like to thank you so much for your patience. We know that we were well and truely Over-programmed, this was definitely a glitch in our system and we apologise for that. We will definitely be double checking this next year and promise you we won’t be making that mistake again.

Please keep an eye out for a survey that we will be sending very shortly. We really appreciate your feedback and will take your opinions onboard as this event is run for you guys, and we truly want you all to have the best experience.

We just can’t wait to bring you an even better competition in 2023, and pray all things COVID are done and dusted. We will be aiming to bring you an adjudicator from the east which should not be so much of a challenge as it has been in the crazy times we have experienced these past few years.

Watch out for our next post announcing all of our major award winners.

Lots of love and gratitude to you all.

Kate & Trina xx

Introducing our gorgeous adjudicator…

Sydney-born and Perth-raised triple threat performer, Erin Barry, trained under some of the most influential artists Perth has to offer, turning her love of dance into her career.
After graduating with an Advanced Diploma from the esteemed private performance college, Principal Academy of Dance, she was invited to join the staff of Principal Academy as the new resident tap teacher and Stage Manager. Since then, she’s gone on to manage events such as the massively influential, “Path of Hope Foundation’s: ‘Phantom of The Opera’ Charity Gala Ball” at Crown Towers, and has been offered numerous teaching positions at many different institutions, and is currently working as a Contemporary Dance & Musical Theatre teacher.
She is well-known around Perth for her involvement in children’s entertainment, working on live shows such as PJ Masks with Disney, Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig, and was recently scouted by ‘Bluey’, the massive hit TV series, becoming the official Logistics Co-ordinator & Show Host for all future Bluey-related live productions in WA.
Her dance expertise covers a vast range of styles from showgirl to acrobatics, yet she also has experience in unique specialist art forms like hoop and poi. With such a broad range of abilities, she’s had the pleasure of being cast in a number of successful dance shows & musicals, cabarets, commercial music videos and corporate advertisements, as a featured dancer, specialist act, actor and singer. Her most recent endeavour, being cast as an extra in a brand new TVC for Crown Perth.
She recently adjudicated at the DanceLife Unite National Dance Championship and was very well received. We are sure you guys are going to love the feedback Erin will give you all.
