Many techniques in Eskrima are universal.

Therefore movements that are practiced with weapons can easily be replicated with empty hands when the practitioner is confident.

This is useful for beginners who can train at longer ranges, without engaging in close quarter tactics or rely on hard hitting.

Espada y Daga is a fighting technique in Eskrima that uses both a long and short weapon.

Here black belts Dave and Terry from Bunbury Eskrima, demonstrate an Espada y Daga drill with a stick and knife.

Eskrima is effective at long range, medium range and close range, as it employs both long and short weapons, as well as empty hand combat.

To move between these ranges quickly and efficiently requires timing and precise hand and footwork.

Specific drills are practised slowly to develop accuracy and skill, before increasing in speed.
