In the past, I used to have an “all or nothing” mindset when it came to holidays. Over time, through learning more about nutrition and what foods make me feel my best, I’ve been able to create a balanced approach and enjoy food freedom, even while traveling. I managed to have a meal out every day, enjoying what I wanted, while still nourishing my body and staying aligned with my goals.
Here’s how I pre-planned my trip to the Gold Coast:
🌼 I booked an apartment with a full kitchen, which allowed me to cook my own meals (and it also saved me a lot of money since I stayed there for a while).
🌼 I found a nearby supermarket and did my grocery shopping on the first day.
🌼 The night before each day, I planned my meals out in MyFitnessPal and adjusted my other meals accordingly.
🌼 I focused on eating foods that supported both my mental well-being and performance.
🌼 For the more complex meals I wanted to try I left them untracked. In the end, I only had one untracked meal during the entire trip.
I felt great, had plenty of energy, and performed well in the gym, all while maintaining a sense of balance.
This approach isn’t for everyone—some might prefer a more intuitive eating approach, and that’s perfectly fine! The key is finding what works for you and allows you to enjoy life while still feeling your best. For me, this balance between planning ahead and allowing flexibility has been a game changer, making my trips enjoyable and stress-free while still staying true to my health and fitness goals.
It’s all about creating a lifestyle that supports both your well-being and your personal preferences—whether that’s through more structure or a more intuitive approach. The most important thing is finding what makes you feel good and gives you the freedom to live fully.
