A sewer blockage and spill occurred within parkland on the southside of the Barwon River, west of the McIntyre Bridge in Belmont earlier today.
The blockage was likely caused by tree roots, non-flushable wet wipes, and heavy rainfall.
The blockage has been resolved, and crews are currently on site working to clean up the area.
As work continues, the community is asked to avoid the parkland area including the river adjacent to the spill area. Signage has been installed.
As part of our works, we have had to close a section of Barrabool Road, altered traffic conditions will be in place to allow motorists to travel in both directions along Barrabool Road, before the road fully re-opens later today.
We are also directly contacting key stakeholders and river users, and advising relevant government authorities.
A timely reminder to only flush the 3P's – p*e, poo, and (toilet) paper, as anything else doesn't break down in the sewerage system.
Thank for your understanding as we work to resolve the issue.
