Today, we’re joined by someone who has played a huge role in the growth and development of women’s football, particularly across Central Victoria.
From playing her junior football in Gisborne, to becoming a foundation player and captain of the Bendigo Thunder, Emma Grant went on to realise a dream of playing AFLW, becoming a foundation player and vice-captain of Collingwood and playing 20 games at the highest level.
But Emma’s contribution to football didn’t stop when her playing career finished.
Since hanging up the boots, she has built an impressive coaching career, working through the Bendigo Pioneers and Victoria Country pathways, coaching and mentoring the next generation of female footballers and helping create opportunities for women to transition from players into coaches.
She has also been recognised nationally for her coaching, including receiving the AFL Coaches Association Women’s Coaching Pathway Scholarship, before moving into an AFLW development coaching role with Richmond.
But perhaps what makes Emma’s story so special is the impact she has had beyond the elite level , helping grow the game, develop people and provide opportunities for young women across Central Victoria.
This is a fantastic story about football, leadership, opportunity and giving back to the game.
