IT’S FIGHT WEEK 🥊💯🙌

Saturday June 13 is more than just stepping back into the boxing ring.

Earlier this year I faced some personal setbacks with my mental health and personal life. It forced me to take a step back, regroup and focus on what mattered most.

Now the time feels right to return 💯🥊

After three fights, a win has still eluded me, but I’ve never been one to quit when things get tough. If anything, the challenges have only strengthened my resolve.

This Saturday afternoon I’ll be fighting out of Carbon Gym for the very first time. A place where I spend most of my days coaching, learning and growing. If that first win is due, then I want it to happen with Carbon Gym right behind me.

It’s a huge 19 bout card and I’ll be stepping into the ring for Bout 16.

Growing up in a Croatian household where food was a big thing, foods like ćevapi have always been a big part of my life.

It’s the sort of meal I grew up eating with family, and if I’m being honest, it’s still one of my favourites today.

The problem is that traditional comfort foods don’t always fit easily into your health and fitness goals.

That’s why I was pretty excited when I saw Workout Meals had a Balkan Ćevapi Bowl.

All the flavours I grew up with, but in a high-protein meal that actually fits my macros and supports my training.

What surprised me most though wasn’t just the Ćevapi Bowl, it’s been their entire range.

I’ve worked my way through a fair few of their meals now and every one has been easy, convenient and packed with protein.

PEAK WEEK 💥🥊💯

One of the toughest weeks of any fight camp.

This is where all the hard work, early mornings, sore muscles, and countless rounds get put to the test. There’s no easing off, no shortcuts, and no hiding from the work.

Our newest coach at Carbon Gym loves a good HIIT circuit session, and even more so when she gets the chance to torture another coach, especially the one mentoring her.

Twice now she’s put me through a HIIT / HYROX style cardio session, and twice now she’s pushed my active heart rate past 175bpm 🤯🫪 Apparently that’s still not enough because she’s convinced she can get me to the 200 😳

At this point, I’m starting to think I should be looking into life insurance before the next session 🤔😩👌💯

All jokes aside, these sessions and the rest have been brutal, but they’re exactly what I need heading into June 13. My 4th time entering the ring and to be honest I feel the fittest and most prepared I’ve ever been.

The work is done. The preparation is there.

Now it’s time to trust the process and get ready to step into the ring and bring that WIN home.

Everyone supports you when you have no standards.

Everyone is comfortable when there are no expectations.

But the moment you start setting boundaries, demanding accountability and refusing to tolerate excuses, you become the difficult one.

That’s okay, you weren’t put on this earth to make everyone comfortable, no matter who they are.

You were put on this earth to become the strongest version of yourself and you should not feel guilty for trying to chase that.

So stay disciplined, stay accountable and stay resilient.

Too many people get obsessed with the number on the scales instead of what’s actually happening to their body.

Muscle weighs the same as fat does but it looks completely different. Unfortunately this is where people get lost with the whole you can stay the same weight in kilograms whilst getting leaner, stronger, fitter, and healthier.

The goal shouldn’t be just to lose weight. The goal is to build a stronger body and a better version of yourself, inside and out.

I don’t portray myself as an industry expert but I know enough to bet my life on the fact you need to stop chasing a number on the scales and start chasing real long term progress.

The other day I had the opportunity to put Keisha who is one of our newest trainers through one of my boxing strength & conditioning sessions called 12 ROUNDS.

The concept is quite simple - 12 x 3-minute rounds with 1 minute rest between the rounds. One round could be heavy bag work or pads focusing on combinations, speed and power then the next round straight into strength and conditioning focused on building overall boxing fitness. The rounds then alternate through boxing to S&C until the end, with each round being something different.

The best thing about this setup? It can be adjusted to suit absolutely anyone, from beginners through to advanced and you don’t have to be a boxer, this kind of training is great for anyone.

Keisha recently graduated from Fit College Geelong and has now joined the Carbon Gym coaching team and will have the opportunity to work closely with coaches like myself and Kate Collins as she builds herself reputation within the industry and Geelong Community.

Keisha came in to my session already pretty fit and she trains consistently, but judging by the stats I had her sitting at 178+ BPM for over 43 minutes which is absolutely insane 😳🤯🔥

WELL DONE KEISHA 🙌 💯 🥊 💪

One thing I think the fitness industry needs more of is coaches training other coaches. No matter what your experience level, there’s always something to learn from another coach. You need to put ego aside, share knowledge and everyone grows.

Over the years I’ve learned something important, people don’t just need workouts, they need STRUCTURE, ACCOUNTABILITY, DISCIPLINE, SUPPORT AND BELIEF!!

That’s what this next chapter of RESILIENCE LIFTING is about. This is more than fitness, this is about building stronger humans physically and mentally.
