Do carbs make you fat?
Do carbs make you fat?
The answer: NOPE! You CAN eat the carbs and still have an amazing, healthy body.
âś…Carbs are an essential source of energy for our bodies. Our brains need carbs. Our muscles need carbs.
âś…What's more, eating a balance of carbs, fats, and proteins can help us maintain a healthy weight, clearer focus and more energy. And that's because carbs are the body's preferred source of fuel.
But that doesn't mean all carbs are created equal!
If you want to lose weight and gain muscle with a healthy diet, the key is to choose complex carbohydrates instead of simple ones (think brown rice as opposed to white rice, whole wheat bread as opposed to white bread).
👉Simple carbs get absorbed quickly, so you'll feel hungry sooner.
👉Complex carbs take longer for your stomach to digest, which means you'll feel full for longer—and you'll have fewer cravings for high-calorie treats later on in the day.
This means carbs don't make you fat. Do you what DOES contribute to excess fat stores in the body?
❌Staying up too late (lack of sleep) and eating chocolates (excess calories).
❌Drinking a bottle of wine (excess calories, alcohol also slows digestion) because you hate your job (stress).
❌Skipping the gym for two weeks straight because you're busy and tired (unbalanced calories in vs calories out) .
❌Eating a bag of chips and dip while watching Netflix on the couch (excess calories and low movement).
❌Drinking soda every day for lunch instead of water or tea (excess calories & not enough water - can lead to dehydration, dehydration can lead to poor and slow digestion).
That's what makes you gain excess fat.
Carbs don't make you fat—it's what kind of carbs you're eating, and more importantly, how much of them. Eating too many carbs while living an unhealthy lifestyle can create ill health and not only increase the amount of fat your body stores but have a detrimental effect on energy levels, brain function, immune health and overall healthy cell production.
