Gawler Amateur Swimming Club was established in 1962 and is the oldest swimming club in the Barossa and Gawler region. Fondly known as the Gawler Gators, the club aims to encourage and promote the sport of swimming and has actively been involved in the development of swimmers of all ages and abilities. Gawler Amateur Swimming Club, known as the family-friendly club, prides itself in providing quality swim coaching at affordable prices. The club caters for all aspects of swimming, from competitive swimmers who perform at local, state and national level, to swimmers with disabilities, fitness swimmers, triathletes, masters swimmers and social swimmers. We provide coaching and instruction for independent swimmers starting from 5 years of age.
The club is fortunate enough to provide instruction in both 25m and 50m pools, placing it at a distinct advantage in the competitive realm. During the summer months, from October to March, the club trains at the Gawler outdoor pool (50m) and during the winter months, April to September, training continues at the Rex pool in Tanunda and the Starplex pool in Gawler, both 25m pools.
The club holds its annual swimming carnival in November every year which is well represented by both metro and country clubs. Gawler Gators also travel to various carnivals throughout the year and compete in individual and team relay events. These competitions help to grow swimmer’s confidence, improve their race times and form life-long friendships with their team mates. The club has always had a strong representation at the SA Country Championships, a three day event with fierce competition and strong camaraderie amongst the team. The club is also represented at the SA Long Course and Short Course Championships which are held in Adelaide every year. At these events swimmers compete against the best that South Australia has to offer with visiting swimmers from other states across the country. Gawler Gators have previously stood on the podium at these championships in both the able-bodied and multi class fields.
The club has qualified coaches on pool deck for all training sessions who will assess new swimmers to ensure they are placed in the correct squad for their level. Coaches believe that swimmers should be in the position where they want to train, where they enjoy training and where they drive themselves to succeed. Our simple goal is to coach a squad where everyone wants to be there and everyone leaves smiling.
